1966 / Disc conv ??s

I did it via the all 76 parts swap and see the camber issue thing. I'm more concerned with the rear drums after the swap and prop valve addition as the drvr side seems to hiss and scratch when cold. She seems to "jerk a hair and pull hard on left aft when cold. Screaching and having a locking brake sensation that makes a clung sound. Also noticed is a starting and even low speed clung as if the brake pad is hung up by a chad on the backing plate ?

All new rotors, calipers, pads-shoes, lines F/A, is air in lines the issue, ? seems the dist block only has one line to aft so ? Bad install ? Backing plate chads ?

I can confirm there is only one line coming out of the proportioning valve to the rear brakes so that should be correct, if the rear drums are dragging they could be adjusted incorrectly, there's a small rubber plug in the bottom backside of the rear brakes that will give you access to the star adjuster, I can't remember which way (up or down but it's the same for both sides) will push the shoes away from the drums but you should be able to experiment by jacking up the truck and spin the wheels to figure it out, best to use a brake adjusting spoon or you'll wear yourself out trying to turn the adjuster with a screw driver.

So the rear brakes are still drum I assume? Sounds like it's time to open them up and take a look again. If it pulls to the left then possibly the problem is on the right side, making it less effective. Possibly an air bubble in the right side line, but this would not explain the noises.

Are your rubber hoses new?

Check the adjustment- they should be adjusted up to the point where there is noticeable resistance but you should still be able to spin the wheel. Definitely use a brake tool as a screwdriver won't cut it.

Since the shoes are new (and drums turned?) I suppose it's possible that one side is "worn in" better than the other and is much more effective. If this is the case then the other side shoe will probably soon fit that drum better and start working better. But this would not really explain the noises...

FWIW, I redid my brakes last year and recently had a similar problem with a hard pull to the left. My problem was a leaking wheel cylinder on the front right. Since the shoe on that side was saturated with brake fluid, I had to replace the shoes as well as that cylinder.

when u swapped to the disc setup did u also swap to a dual resevoir master cyl and change the proportioning valve.if i remember right a drum-drum prop.valve puts 50% front & rear i have friends that have done this swap without changing the prop.valve and trying to keep the single resevoir master and had trouble with brakes tying to lock

No 1966 or earlier FoMoCo vehicle came w/a proportioning valve. Introduced in 1967 along with dual master cylinders.

Bob used 1976 F100 (or F150) disc brake parts on his 1966 F100.

D5TZ-2B257-B .. Brake Differential Proportioning Valve / Marked: D5TA-2B524-FA or FB / Obsolete

Applications: 1975/79 F100/150 2WD/4WD / 1975/79 F250 2WD with single piston caliper disc brakes / 1976/79 F250 4WD / 1978/79 Bronco / 1979 F350 4WD.

number dummy what you are saying is that the 66 and earlier block is just a distribution block and not a proportioning valve?

(sigh) There is no proportioning valve, distribution block or whatever you want to call it, on any 1966 or earlier FoMoCo vehicle: N-O-N-E ~ NONE!

Introduced in 1967 along with dual master cylinders. Look at any 1939/66 FoMoCo vehicle w/a single pot master cylinder, see if you can locate it.

Lotsa luck, because...there is no such thing!

ND; there is a distribution block on a '66. It's on the frame just behind the manual steering box.

Redmanbob, I'm assuming your name is Bob. You didn't answer the question. So before anyone jumps on your back,,, did you swap out the proportioning valve (NOT the distribution valve) from the 76'. AND did you swap out the duel Master cylinder from the 76' also...?
OK, I'm done - la di da di da di da..........

C5TZ-2075-A .. Connector-Brake Pipe / 1965/66 F100/250 2WD.

This has nothing to do with a dual master cylinder, since it wasn't available until 1967.

Did I say it did? You said there were no distribution blocks or proportioning valve on a '66 or earlier FOMOCO vehicle. I said there was.
