Hello all, I have been reading posts for quite awhile on this site, got a ton of good info so far. I finally was able to buy 75 HB 360 manual, planning on full restoration in time, however, for now, i would like to get some more braking power. I understand it looks simpler to swap out axle than to keep my current closed knuckle 44 & do conversion. If i do this, can i keep the drums on the rear for now? Or should they all be changed at the same time? how about the m/c? Like I said, I am new to this, have restored a couple tractors & done some other paint/body work, but not sure on this one. Thx in advance, am looking forward to getting on with my project!
I have a 75 same as you describe. I went with an early 77 f250 disc brake front axle. I used the booster and master from a 73-76 f250 2wd with disc brakes and the proportioning valve from the 77 I got the axle from. I don't know if anyone makes a kit for a closed knuckle front axle. Ford did not put disc brakes on the front of f250 4wd until 1976 and then
they changed the booster, master and proportioning valve to the ones like i used.
thx to both of you. I checked out the link for the blackbird kit, i am weighing options now. If i were to swap axles out, what is a good price for one? I've looked them up & they seem to be all over in price.
Also, (subject change) i have seen several deals on used military tires for this truck, any recomendatons? This is not a daily driver, but almost. I wont be doing any mudding, but i use this to haul/pull trailers, etc. I have read some threads on this subject before, curious what you guys think.
Thx again

i would find a 76-77 highboy axle. you might have clearance issues with high pinion axle unless you have a lift. i would think 200-500 bucks would be reasonable.
are you talking about the 36-37 inch hummer tires?
the 36s seem to be easier to find, but they are biased ply tires and dont drive good on the street. i have a set and they will shake you off the road at 30 mph. the 37 inch tires are radials and should drive much better. although i have never tried them.
Appreciate the info on the axles. I will look for something from a 76-79, correct?
As far as the tires, they are the 37 radials, hopefully that would be something that would work for me. I read several opinions on different sites that do nothing but praise them for the $$. I dont have to change the tires today, so i've got some time...
