Updated the firmware on the H&S mini max today and loving the new options. Hope to do some testing w/ the tire calibration tomorrow as I'm running 37" tires and the Ford ECU only compensates to 34".
I bought my truck a month ago with the MM already installed, the firmware was dated sometime last year. Before there was no tow setting and the power level settings were named differently. I'm also not sure if the transmission tuning and tire calibration options were available. There also seems to be more fueling options when you do update the firmware and download the new ROM files. I come from the import forced induction world and I must say I'm impressed with H&S and their products.
OH OK gotcha. I thought I was missing something. Thanks. Yes H&S is awesome. I have been running their tuner on this truck since dec 2010. 80, 000 km and loving every minute of it.
So a couple more Regen details. I had a couple on a complete highway run yesterday.
Regen 1:
506 miles since the last (all highway)
lasted 15 minutes or about 20 miles
EGTs (remember I'm way after the turbo at least 300* cooler) were averaging 700* peaking at 710*
Regen 2.:
504 miles
lasted 15 minutes and 19 miles
EGTs averaged around 710* and peaked at 728* (note: the outside temp was also 10* warmer outside)
Truck ran great...no problems so far. 5000miles since the addition of the MM.
Also a note about BOOST:
You don't get the same amount of boost pressures with DPF on tuning as the guys that are deleted. I've seen 26-28 fairly often, but I've only seen 28psi+ when I'm REALLY getting into it. I've only seen 30psi once and I have the burnout to prove it.
I keep reading about guys that are getting regens every couple of hundred miles. I have never seen that with my truck before the MM. I'd say they averaged every 400-450 miles with the driving I do. The MM they are awfully consistent at or around 500 miles.
Two more regens...one at 504 miles and another at 506. I can't believe the consistency. If I didn't know better, the MM was doing a regen based on mileage, not soot count. It's just so consistent now.
I have another 500 miles to drive tomorrow...we'll see.
Just installed my Mini Maxx race tuner past weekend. DPF on tuning for now. I bought the EGR delete kit when I bought the tuner and plan on trashing that rocket ship DPF but havent deleted yet - after losing a NOX sensor last summer while pulling the trailer through Indianapolis I'm not going through that again this year. Sad I waited until the price jumped and had to pay $1,500 but worth every penny. I had to completely reload my SD card as out of the box it wouldn't read.
All I can say is Holy $&@?!!! Nothing like unleashing this beast. We still have crap weather up here and sand on the highways from winter and I couldn't keep any traction trying to do the transmission relearn for 0 to 80mph at 100 % throttle. The guys at H&S know what they are doing!! Possibly cost me more in tires!!
One question I have is everybody running these with traction control turned off because once we are through with this extended winter I don't see turning it back on except for off road and snow!!
Also, any recommendations on a reasonable delete pipe with a muffler? I would like to keep this thing quiet when I delete. It is something I like about these new diesels. Looked at MBRP cool duals with delete pipe but seems harder to find up here in Canada since the US started banning the delete tuners.
And third question...what is the best setting for fuel mileage? I may have trouble changing from the FUN setting of Performance Tune but I drive 3,000 miles of highway per month and don't always need the fun factor!!
I only switch mine from performance to towing when I'm pulling the wheelers or when I eventually get our 5th wheel from storage (seems like it is going to be a while). You more adjust your driving style than the tuner. Controlling your foot is also the best way to get the maximum MPG. I'm not certain what muffler I'm going to put on when I delete mine, but I'm putting one on for sure.
Update on Regens...I've been doing a fair amount of city driving lately and have noticed some regens around 200 miles apart. I have a highway trip planned this weekend, I'm hoping that it gets a decent cleaning and it goes back to longer runs between regens. It was great until the last couple of weeks.
Power Service white bottle in winter and gray bottle in summer. Every tank, every time. I try and fill up with a 1/4 tank of fuel left and put in 4-6 ounces.
I just wanted to report some regen's the last couple of weeks. I haven't seen the highway in two weeks and it's been a lot of idling and short runs (not a good idea for these trucks, but it's called life and I live it). Anyway, as expected, the regens are ridiculously close together. I have had 3 in 400 miles although one only had about 10 minutes and didn't complete. While not unexpected it does provide encouragement to DELETE. Truck still runs exceptional and I don't regret tuning.
I agree with you on the tuning Savage. We took our boat out a couple weeks ago and I switched from performance to tow and left it like that for a VERY short time afterwards. The truck feels like a completely different truck between the two and I'm afraid I'm spoiled by the added power. I don't hot rod around everywhere but even under normal driving conditions, the damn truck WANTS to go. It is fun to hurt the little imports feelings every once in a while when they try to leave you at a light and they "quickly" learn this 8k lb. brick isn't having any of that!!.
