Brake upgrade options...?

Hey guys I've got a 99 4x4 4.6 and I was wondering if there were any cheaper big brake kits, or some junkyard upgrade. My truck has rear drum, yeah I got one of the Lucky 99's with drums but I don't want to go crazy swapping disks on. Too much work for not much gain. So is there some sort of front upgrade thats not $1000 plus? Half of that or less would be better if possible.

Tia

No one? Am I stuck with stock brakes with upgraded rotors/pads? I really wanted something that could take more heat and not fade, as well as give me some better stopping power since I'll be towing around 7k lbs every so often.

EBC Green pads. Nice upgrade over OEM pads.

I have trailer brakes. On both axles. But I would like extra reassurance.

What about the 7700 package brakes if I happen to find some? Will those bolt up to my truck? Those had upgraded brakes right?

I believe that the 7700 truck used 7-bolt axles so they wouldn't fit your truck I don't think.

It did, I was more wondering if there is a bracket and or caliper on there that will bolt to my truck and then all I do is find the correct size rotor in my bolt pattern to bolt on.

Also thinking of maybe just having a bracket made to relocate the caliper out further, and slamming a larger rotor in there.

Another note, does anyone know if they make upgraded high friction shoes for my rear drums?

Put Russell Stainless Steel Brake Hose Kit on the truck. On mine three hoses were in the kit, the ones for the rear Wheel Pistons had to be ordered separately. Also order extra washers for the Banjo Bolts, they are not a standard material, and are handy to have for future work. Also I'd do a complete fluid flush. BTW don't tow your trailer till you get a feel for the new pedal sensitivity, LOL. Also I don't recommend anything but genuine Ford Disc, the others warp.

Where did you find your kit? What rear lines did you have to order? I didn't even know there were 5 lines, I thought it was just the front 2 and one for the rear.

Call Summitt, they will tell you what you need. With Rear Drums only, you probably only have three flex lines. My truck has Calipers in the back with drum parking brakes.

Did you ask for Russell Stainless Steel Hoses or Stainless Steel Brake lines? I Can't imagine they wouldn't have them for the most popular truck on the road. Try
Calling or E-mailing Russell directly.

I found a couple sets of 3 lines, but they're all over $200. I can find 2wd lines but the 4x4 lines are hard to find. I had this same issue with my old 98 4x4. I ended up with new factory rubber lines because I got fed up with it. I'll e-mail Russel.
