Hello again. I have many threads as you guys can see, sorry I just need some professional advice from others. Anyway like I stated in my other threads I bought a 97 EB Expedition with remote. I tested the panic button and it sets off the horn but not sure about the lights (it was too bright out) then when I closed the doors and locked them with the remote I noticed the THEFT light in the instrument cluster does not come on. When I turn the keys to IGNITION I see the THEFT light comes on so I know its there. I this a programming deal or what? I had a 2000 F150 with the same THEFT system and when I locked the doors with the remote the THEFT light would come on and blink. I'm confused?? I don't have a manual yet so I'm hoping someone out there knows and can help me. THANKS......
I also have a 2000 F150 along with the 97 EB Expedition. I think in 97/98 models the theft light doesn't blink but it does in my 2000 F150, go figure? I also noticed there is no cruise idiot light on the 97 EB but I have a cruise idiot light in my 2000 F150, again go figure?? Oh the little things that matter. Thanks for the replies fellas....
The 97 model has keyless entry, but no "remote" alarm system. The theft light you speak of works with the PATS system (the transponder in the ignition key). If someone were to use a unprogrammed key in your ignition, the "theft" light would come on, and the vehicle would not start. Later models may have incorporated an alarm system to work with the keyless entry, but they still had the PATS system. Also, I guess Ford realized that a blinking light in the dash would deter theft BEFORE a thief smashes your window and breaks into your car, so they made the light flash whenever the key is removed on later models.
