i have an 89 bronco II and for some reason the tranny does not shift into overdrive and just runs in drive even at 70mph on the interstate, also the temp gauge doesnt go up since i replaced the thermostat not sure if these issues are related, going to replace thermostat again to see if that helps the temp problem, if some one can give me any ideas that would be great
how many shifts do u actually get? od is notorious to go bad in a4ld trannies. it should shift 1,2,3,tc lock up, od. mine lost od and when we pulled it apart, the piston springs looked like a bunch of metal ear rings. since yours is above an 88, it has a solenoid that controls tc lock up and od. if the od solenoid is bad or not connected, no od.
ok thanks i was hoping it was a solenoid issue, we just had the tranny rebuilt but apparently the guy didnt replace that solenoid now my question is, where is the od solenoid located, is it inside or on the outside of the tranny?
the solenids are inside the tranny. you can access them by pulling the pan. not sure which one is for od. mine is an 87 so it only has one solenoid. but you should replace both anyway. they arent extremely expensive and its well worth changing both than taking a chance of the other one going bad between fluid changes. especially since the price of tranny fluid is so outrageous these days.
