seats score!

Hey fellas. Bringin back up the bucket seat debate. Did 73 broncos also use the classic buckets like the f100 a d mustangs? If so..I found a guy who said he'd sell me a PAIR for $25..he said they're the lowback seats..needless to say..I'm stoked!

As the owner of two early Mustangs...... stock seats feel like an upholstered park bench.

The aftermarket does make "sport" upholstery kits which increases the padding and bolsters. Contact TMI ....

Funny you should mention..cuz the bench seat I have LOOKS like an upholstered park bench haha I make myself chuckle.
I believe they're the lowbacks as he said they were. They'll need recovering..but I can get the color I want to match the truck. Just wasn't sure if broncos had the option of the early seats.
I think I've seen those seats before. I just pikethe looks of the lowbacks and since it won't be an everyday driver..I can sacrifice a little comfort. My bench seat is toast and since I have the 4 speed its practically a 2 seated anyway. I wonder how the in cab gas tank will affect the seats. Wasn't there a gas tank cover? I thought I read that somewhere

LOL... I drove my 65 from PA to CA back in '96 and my butt was sore for three days.

I haven't heard/read anything about a gas tank cover. Turn me on if ya find out.

I can relate with the two-seat bench seat. The girl doesn't like it when I shift into 2nd or 4th and I nearly bang my knuckles into the dash for 3rd. Most of the issues should go away with the planned TKO-500.

FYI.. here's a way to add headrests if you are so inclined. Headrest Installation Instructions - Mustang Tech Articles - CJ Pony Parts

.. and the parts: Mustang Head Rests Pair 1965-1967 | CJ Pony Parts

The principle is easy.... looks easy enough to find other headrests and adapt them to fit.

Seats that bad on the honey eh? Hopefully I don't plan drives that long haha. I do envy your mustang. I used to not be into them so much. But then I really started seeing their body lines and I think that they're pretty cars my grandparents had a 641/2 that was gorgeous..ended up gradingstraight across to a dealer for a newer 70 somethin.
I like the headrest idea..but I've noticed with the way I sit I never have my head on the headrests in my current truck..but I may look into it. If the seats are in decent condition ill fix Ik the frames and steam the padding to refluff them. I noticed the bronco graveyard has lots of seat covers

It's not so much that I actually rest my head on them while driving either. Sometimes just sitting in there it is nice to close my eyes and lean back without having to balance the melon btwn my shoulders. Second, a rear-end impact would fling my head backwards which could cause whiplash or worse, smash the rear window. That's why I'm on the hunt for 69-70 high back Mustang seats.

The 65 has been in my family since 1979... was my oldest brother's, then my other older brother, and now me. I didn't need another car but it's a 4-speed and it tends to draw a premium. Plus, it's a 65....the original pony car!! The 68 was a $300 find back in 1992. I've only got about $8k into it. 'bought a $500 wrecked 68 and it donated much of itself. It was rear ended by a concrete truck and then pushed through a concrete block wall ... the middle of the car was still good as was the engine and trans.

Bucket seats were available and used on 65-66-67-68 Ranger package. There was also trim pieces that went above gas tank holding down carpet on the 67 68 Ranger trucks. Here are a couple of pictures of the bucket seats removed from a 68 Ranger as well as the trim pieces.

Here are the trim pieces, rare and hard to find. There's also two pieces (not pictured) that mount to the lower B-Pillars that the carpet get's secured to.

So these seats I'm gonna be grabbing from a 73 bronco should look about the same..besides the upholstery? Are the seat tracks the same used on the f100s that used buckets?

Here's a quote taken from NumberDummy:

"1965/66 Rangers used the same exact bucket seats as 1965/66 Mustang's, the upholstery is also the same (except GT's with 'running horse' on backrest).

The same bucket seats/upholstery (but not the seat tracks) were used in 1967/77 Bronco's.

Rangers required 4 brackets to raise and level the seats. Brackets bolt to the floor pan, then to the seat tracks.

FTE member Bill W has reproduced the brackets.

1965/70 Mustang, 1967/70 Cougar bucket seats (except 1969/70 w/high backs) are the same as are the seat tracks."

I hope this information is helpful to you.
Credit NumberDummy for this information.

Awesome info gangstakr!! Tis been credited! The seats will have to be recovered..but I can do that. Now..here's a curious question. Why did they choose to change the seat tracks for the broncos? So..instead of grabbing the tracks from the bronco..I should find the ones from an early mustang or other f100 or the reproduced ones?

FYI... OEM brackets are dang near impossible to come by so start looking now or contact Bill W for repros.

Here's a pic of 'em.

CADD drawings in PDF are available over at Fordification.com if you dare to fab 'em yerself... or use them as a basis to fab your own style brackets.
