Hey everybody. I'm FINALLY getting time to start on my truck. Question about the vin... I tried to run the number through the "de-coder" but it comes back "invalid". I'm guessing it's because there is no paint code stamped into the plate (truck is white). Is this common for a plate to be missing a code? I'd like to know more info on this truck and why there is no paint code. It was ordered by a Gas Company and has some cool factory extras but I don't know if they are reflected in the Vin. Any help appreciated... and WARNING, I'll have many more questions soon!
You've given us only the middle line of data of what should be three lines of data on the door warranty tag. The top line would be the VIN. The second line gives you wheelbase in inches, color, model, body, trans, and axle. The fact that your color code is blank would lead one to suspect you have a six digit DSO code on line 3. If you do, then your truck was a Domestic Special Order and the paint color was probably part of that special order. You have further probable evidence in that you say the truck was ordered by a gas company and has some cool factory extras. Non special order DSO information is a two digit code. Post ALL of your warranty tag information and someone on this forum will help you decode it. Good luck with your truck!
Sorry, I thought the middle line was the only important one. Line 3 is: 5000 114 3600 650645. I don't have line 1 written down but will post it as soon as I can get to it again. Thx!
no paint code on the warranty plate means it was ordered from the factory with a non standard paint color... my work truck does not have a paint code, it was bought by the government from ford... the DSO number (650645) will give the experts some clues.

Color coded listed separately on Warranty Plate, so has nothing to do with VIN. Some VIN decoders do not recognize the older 11 digits VIN's since VIN's have contained 17 digits since 1981.
Post the VIN, it can be decoded. "Cool" factory extras may have nothing to do with FoMoCo, could have been added days/months/years after it was sold.
There is no way to find out if extras factory or not, as FoMoCo THREW AWAY all the records for 1961/66 trucks decades ago.
Thanks for the info Number Dummy! I hope the first line will tell me the original engine. BTW, this thing has a Fort-Knox looking rear bumper on it with guards around the tail lights and it wraps all the way around and bolts to the flareside fenders. Was that something the dealer offered or aftermarket? (pics are in my gallery... can't figure out how to post a pic here)

Aftermarket, just like the dual exhausts. I cannot see enough of the bumper to tell if it's a step bumper or not.
All rear bumpers were optional thru at least 1979 and FoMoCo didn't offer a factory step bumper until 1967 and then, Stylesides only.
Flareside optional factory rear bumper same 1957/72, it's the painted channel type.
Here on the west coast, the Fey Bumper Co. was the largest supplier of step bumpers, gave dealers display racks that were placed in showrooms.
F10 = F100 2WD
J = 223 1V I-6 (intake/exhaust manifolds located on left [drivers] side).

Interesting. In the gallery it's the white truck, the 4th to last pic shows the rear bumper. It looks possibly homemade but I think I have seen another like it in the past... possibly from Fey? I found paperwork where they custom ordered the truck but a mouse has chewed much of it up. Orig price was $3995 but they ordered something extra that was $600+. Unfortunately, the mouse ate that part so I don't know what they paid $600 extra for! The truck also has some type of lifting or spacing blocks between the front axle and the leaf-springs to jack it up a bit (3 or 4 inches). If these things weren't factory options, the gas co must have immeadiatly sent it out for custom work because the guy I got it from drove it for the gas company and then bought it from them later. He would not have added dual exhaust, the bumper, and all that stuff... but maybe the gas company did. It also has FoMoCo window squirting system (red bag under hood). Were these common?
Hey, thanks for all the info so far everybody. I am rebuilding this truck but I also want to know as much history about it as I can.

So it came with a 223 straight 6? It now has a 292 (I'm told) so... duh, I guess they replaced the motor and added the dual exhaust! The mystery is becoming clear!
