LED Backup lights (MOD)

So, now that I'm pretty much done with my LED DRL mod, I still have some of these
lights left over. One thing that's been bug'n me is the lack of light from the back up lights.
So, decided to try something out. don't know for sure how this will turn out yet, but we'll see.
So - what am I doin.
Picked up some angle iron from Lowes - $10 for a 4ft piece.

tape'n off my cut off areas.
If you're wondering why I got a 4t piece just got that section - i'll be using the rest later for another project.

using a taper to open up the holes I need just a tad

Light test fit

My apprentice show'n off Daddy's work

Test fit on the bumper (FYI - there's about a 3/8's hole in the corner under the bumper - perfect for a bolt/cap-but to mount these.)

That's where I'm at so far. Pulled it all off so I could paint the brackets.
Plus football's about to start - so I'll so the finish product off later once the paint dries and I get it wired up.

Ok, I got bored with the game (more like my anticipation of getting this mod done won out...)
So with that, the paint dried on the brackets, I reassembled the lights.
So for power (yay, fun time...)
I thought about tapping into the main backup lights wiring, but I thought about it and decided to
go into the harness for the trailer lights.
For those that didn't know - there is a lead to the harness for trailers and/or campers that reverse light hookups.
The wire you're after is the center - black wire, with a blue stripe. now if you're wiring was like mine,
the color may be faded and look green - but higher up, it is a black with blue stripe.

To get the harness undone - (at least on mine) There is a pressure clip that locks the clamp from the harness to the
black plug.
you have to ply that grey pressure clip back - then be able to see how to undo the pressure lock, and wiggle the white
harness out of the plug adapter.
Then there's 4 screws that you undo to get the black adapter out.

then, I ran a wire tap (with fuse link) off that center wire and used a heavy duty, rubberzied electrical tape.

So testing the power.
The bumper appears to be a nice ground.
So using a round ground crimp, ran a ground from the nut where I bolted the bracket in.
and then did a test power up.

Everything's finished up, and all the wires nicely tucked and tied out of the way.
I'm not entirely happy with the way I wired it, but I was in a hurry now to get out of the cold. :P
Sun had already past over, and it was about 45degress and falling...

Test with the reverse lights on.

Not too shabby for maybe $30 in parts
I'll try to get a pick later when it's dark.

Ok, the night time shots.
Covered up the LED's and just the regular back up light.

Next, the pic of from the back of the EX attempting to light up my Garage.

Now - with the LED's help'n out!

And what they look like in the dark

It's not a "OMG THE SUNS OUT" improvement, but sitting the the drivers seat looking back,
I notice a nice improvement of being able to see back, and as well as a little perimeter light on the sides (which
was my biggest issue.
Time to start thinking about some running lights next!

Nice mod, I like it. I could use the extra light during this time of the year!

Thank you.
It's a subtle and practical mod that gives me the extra light I wanted.

FYI - since I don't have the running boards, These LED's fit perfectly into the holes for them.
