I've been doing a lot of reading on here about upgrading the factory premium stereo. I ended up replacing all 4 speakers with the infinity 6832cf. I didn't want to put much money into this. The speakers are definitely clearer, but it seems like I have to crank the volume up more on these than the factory ones. Therefore I had to turn down the factory sub because it sounds too loud when I turn up the speakers enough to hear them. The factory sub now sounds worse and "muddier" than before now that the speakers are clearer. My question is do I need to replace the amp feeding the speakers to get more out of them? Also wondered about just upgrading the factory sub to make it more crisp sounding? I don't want to do a bunch of wire running if I can help it. Would like to know the simplest way of fixing this
There was a thread about upgrading the factory sub/speaker. I thought someone had changed the just the sub/speaker out with decent results. I will try to find it.
Nevermind, I looked it up. They're 2 ohm speakers, which should be fine. I can't find the specs for the stock ford but they're usually 2 ohms. Did the stock speakers have the plastic baffles (enclosed speakers)? In the past I've removed those baffles and used them on aftermarket speakers to improve performance. I've always run Polk Audio and they fit just fine. I haven't upgraded the speakers in my rig as I think they sound just fine...I must be getting old.
Adding a 4 channel amp would definitly wake them up. If you're going to do that I'd suggest upgrading the HU and sub with an addtional amp so that you can have full control of the frequencies. Trying to use a line converter to grab signal from the stock HU won't give very good results.
Are you still running a factory head unit? Whats the Ohm rating of your new speakers?
Yes, I have the factory nav head unit. Sound quality is good from the new infinity's, but the volume bar definitely seems to be higher now with the new speakers vs the factory ones. Wasn't sure if this was normal from everyone else that has done this same install. The new infinity's are 2 ohm.

Here is that thread you were probably referring to:
However I have not installed them yet. Been searching (with no luck so far...not much time either) to find the pinouts for the OEM wiring that goes to the OEM Amp/Sub.
I'm getting the feeling I will need to test the pins myself but not looking forward to it so if someone has a link...would be much appreciated.
However OP, I also replace the OEM speakers with the same ones you did a while back...makes a world of difference but time has come to where that OEM amp/sub has got to go.
