I finally was able to get a friend's V10 2000 4x4 XLT Excursion out for a ride.
Well, he wants $6k (85k miles) and here are the issues:
- steering box is most likely needing to be replaced
- 2 bad tires
- rust on passenger's front door bottom
- tailgate won't open on the remote
- overdrive switch is bad
- cruise does not work
- interior is filthy
- driver's seat is all tore up
- some tears in 2nd row seats
- front grill has a crack
I did like the ride and power but I don't think this is the right truck for me at this time.
So we shall see what other opportunities arise in my area.
There is '03 in virginia for 13k nothing needs fixing.

If you want a clean ex to keep a long time you can't beat low miles and 3yrs younger!
Looks like he's in Indiana, pretty much part of the "rust belt" it sounds like. If I had a "friend" that was trying to sell me an X described like the one the OP was testing out, I don't think we'd be friends long. Sounded like a pice of sh**..................

Thanks for the mention.
I just haven't met anybody lately who subscribes to the theory that get you what you pay for in a good used low mileage Excursion though.
I test drove a brand new Suburban LTZ $55,000 on Saturday, and honestly I like the feel of my Excursion a lot better. The Excursion doesn't drive as badly as a worn out 1955 Chevrolet pickup, but it also doesn't drive like a girly girly Suburban either. The Suburban simply feels and drives like a tall fat Cadillac sailing over every crack in the road.
