She will patiently sit in the cab or out on the job box with the slider open all day long without leaving her post or threatening anyone.
Not 24/7 protection, but I doubt someone wants to climb in and find out.
No one wants my truck anyhow.
Good girl!
I use one of these "clubs" under the clutch pedal. Advantages:
1) Analogue technology, simple.
2) Visible deterrent, might prevent break-in by casual thief.
3) Must be removed to start or drive the truck (quickly at least).
Disadvantages: it can be broken or sawed with time and/or preparation. It also does not prevent towing. It also requires me to carry another key on my key ring.
Matt - That's a pretty good option, and should deter the casual thief.
Hey, what do you think about your floor mats? I'd like to get some mats, but the ones Dad had in it kept sliding toward the door. Do yours? What brand are they?
I used to know a guy that somehow had a fence charger hooked to his truck, touch any metal part and you'd get a pretty good jolt. I found out the hard way when I parked next to him and when I opened the door it touched his mirror.
I think retrofitting a weight switch from a new car into the seat and an audio recording would be a simple and effective security system...
Someone sitting in the seat who hasn't deactivated the system would trigger an audio response: "Unauthorized user detected - ******** destruction to begin in 5...4...3..."
I don't think any self respecting car thief is going to stick around very long...
Sounds (pun intended) like an interesting approach. When the count-down is over the fence charger kicks in. Or, a simple relay in the green wire to the coil such that the standard coil is picked when the system isn't armed and the one under the seat is "hot" when the system is armed.
Just a couple of thoughts;
I wonder if an "Eye-Fi" sd card could be hooked up somehow to work with a new technology radio. Such as a hidden radio (under the seat) with usb capability. Or even have a hidden camera with the "Eye-Fi" sd card in it. The "Eye-Fi" will call home and download pictures to your computer every time it is in a free Wi-Fi area.
Another one is putting a good quality anti-theft unit from a different vehicle and manufacturer in the truck. For example, I have a Saturn with a anti-theft disabling feature. What if I were to install it in my truck, only in a different location than would normally be used by a manufacturer?
Just a couple of thoughts that I would like to throw out there.
What kind of radio? I could see an iPhone or some such, but don't know about a radio. On the iPhone, if you just had an old phone and charger you could rig it to charge the phone whenever the engine was running so it would be available. However, it only pops up what the free wifi is and asks if you want to join, so it would take an app of some kind to cause it to join automagically as well as to take pictures and send them back. There's an app for that?
As for the different brand security system, I'm not sure I see the advantage since a modest system is available for $50, new. Getting a system and its sensors out of a car I would think would be difficult, and then figuring out how it works might be tough as well since they might not explain that to any detail in the tech lit.

These floor mats were the largest-sized plain ones (no cartoons on them) available hanging on the rack at my local Autozone. They seem to stay put pretty well, but I wish they covered more area. Sometimes a little dirt still gets on my **** carpet The ones for sale in LMC truck look bigger/better but they are a bit expensive.
Gary,
eye-fi cards can be used in cameras and join open wifi networks (or your providers network) automagically and send everything into the cloud.
It is like having an unlimited storage device.
Metadata in included in the files, so location would be given too.
Matt - Thanks. I agree that they seem a bit narrow. Think I'll also look at Sam's Club as my brother said they have some good one.
Jim - I'd not picked up on the eye-fi card thinking. Missed that. But, you'd have to have both a camera, and a recent one that has GPS unless the eye-fi card does and I don't think so, as well as a radio/phone of some kind.
