Nate - Thanks for that, as well as your PM asking if I've settled on what security system I'm going to use. On the starter interrupt, most of the systems I would go with have that built in, so figuring out how to wire it won't be an issue. But thanks anyway.

As for what security system, I haven't settled yet and probably won't for many months. That's because I haven't even started The Transformation, and it will be toward the end of that when I'll be installing the alarm system. However, whatever system I install it will probably have similar features to the one mentioned in this post.

So, I'll be looking for one that lets you program it for silent mode one time. And, this one has the valet switch and the status LED integrated into a module, which I don't like either as I doubt I'll want them to be in the same place - although I'm sure I could separate them. Anyway, the point is that name brand alarms exist for about $50 to do what I want to do. Add onto that an electric hood lock, a few relays, and a pin switch and it can be done for about $100.

For that money the system would:
  • Use the door pin switches to detect door opening
  • Have a hood pin switch to detect hood opening
  • Be tied into the door locks to lock/unlock them via the fob
  • Have a hood lock that would be locked when the system is armed
  • Have a shock sensor to detect movement of the vehicle or sharp blows like breaking the window.
  • Control the tank selector valve to ensure the truck can't be driven away
  • Have a loud siren that would call attention to the goings on if any of the sensors are tripped
  • Have a starter cutout such that the starter wouldn't run even if they get the wire on the ignition switch jumpered.

Hey Gary Just curious. did you ever figure out what to do? I am still trying to figure out how to protect my investment. Don't want to sink all my money and time into Boy Blue and get him stolen in the end. If you don't want to share, you could pm me.

I haven't decided yet, but there are several systems for about $125 that I'll zero in on later. At this point I have ...... bigger problems. Just realized that the seats that I'm paying to have recovered won't bolt in with the supports I have - I'll be posting in Dad's Truck Build in a few minutes.

Anyway, when I get to that point I will share what my decision is, just maybe not where I put it and how all of the sensors are connected.

Don't see why that wouldn't work.

Requires manual operation, you'd need to physically be there to actuate it.

Ideally, you want an active defense against theft whether or not you're present:

Or put a deer that you hit and thought you killed in the back of your car, then come to find out it rips the inside of the vehicle to shreds when the intruder gets in there.

I think I will stick with a $125 alarm system. It will be able to unlock and lock the doors, which Harry's Model 29 can't do, nor will the monkey.
