I was talking with a friend about getting a plow for my truck. He said it might be too long. Saying the rear wheels would hit the wind row of snow when trying to turn.
I have a 2002 dually crew cab long bed. Anyone have a plow on that model? Of course it's 4x4 also.
to long is not the issue. You need the correct width blade. As for the tires hitting the wind side on turning who cares. Be safe Btw I plow with a 07 f350 DRW and never had a problem. Be safe and make money
Get a 9'2" V blade plow and add wings. It will now be close to 11' across when straight and about 10' when fully angled. This will be more than enough to plow the full width of the dually. Even if the tires were to overlap a few inches with the windrow while plowing it doesn't matter, if the blade is installed correctly and level it should scrap up anything you may have packed down.
There is no such thing as too long if you are using the truck to plow big areas. You can even to residential stuff with it if you are careful.
Plenty of people use Duallys for plowing. They are great for the guys who also carry a 2 yard salter in the back so they can still be somewhat close to legal with all the weight.
no need for the wide load permit but make sure you get the correct insurance for plowing. You dont want to get hit with the fines that may apply. Here in jersey they will impound the vehicle Good luck
Too long depends what you plow. Your truck is very long and has a lousy turning radius compared to the new coil spring models. On a roadway or parking lot no issue, in a tight driveway you will likely have trouble.
There are many issues associated with plowing. Which plow is only one, and there are many factors involved in that issue alone.
Truck-side equipment, business issues, legal issues, DOT regs, what properties you plow, and many other factors come into play.
Thanks for this post....I'm now considering joining yet another forum. Just like this forum, you look at one thread and next thing you know you are reading 10.
I'm actually thinking of hooking up with a local contractor and pushing with him. He does shopping centers. I already have the Class A CDL so the other details will be what I need to worry about.
