Stuck in 4L

I have a 79 F250 with the 300 and 4 speed. Put it in 4L last night to pull and guy out and now I can not get it out of 4wd. Do u think it is internal or just the linkage? No play in linkage, solid as a rock.

Thanks

I noticed my 205 linkage was pretty tough too the other day. Make sure you put it in gear if it is a 4 speed and slowly release the clutch while trying to shift the transfer case (dont release it all the way just enough to "load" the gears and just back off on the clutch pedal). That helps to release the 'stick' on the gears and let it shift.

1. Insp the linkage, still connected, anything bent?
2. Hubs unlocked?

With its running/idling and in 2nd gear, with a little firm tension (pulling back in the xfer stick) slowly release the clutch a little. If that does not work try it by very easily popping the clutch just a little while still pulling back on the xfer stick.

If that doesn't work, try it while in reverse, do not dump the clutch completly out, just a few pops while working the gas a bit.

I would try moving in reverse slowly while pulling back on the TC stick. that usually works for me.

You need to unwind the driveline bind, so to speak...

simply drive in reverse for 10-15 feet and it will shift right out of 4L.
