Still lovin' my truck but had to be towed to the dealer today. My first problem.
Drove about 75 miles to a meeting this morning with no problem but 4 hours later jumped in and . . . no start. Battery was strong as the engine turned over just fine but that was the problem - turned over without starting, like no fuel! I had no prior indication of a pending problem.
I pressed the red fuel supply reset switch hidden behind the tiny panel on the passenger side without success so had her towed to the local Ford dealership.
Anyway, the service rep said the high pressure fuel pump had gone out which will involve extensive and perhaps expensive repairs. I was also told the repairs "should be" covered under warranty. Although I'm past the 36,000 mile mark it will be covered under the 100,000 mile power train warranty.
Any sharing of thoughts, ideas or experience with this type of problem would be appreciated. Thank you.
Wow that was a fast diagnosis. I hope they get the truck fixed quickly for you and under warranty. Keep us in the loop...
Hey Savage, I wish the estimated repair time would be as fast - but it won't. The dealers diesel tech guy is out for a week and they estimate 3 weeks to repair, and I'm 75 miles from home! Ugh!!! Crazy but I have no other option then to have it repair where it sits.
Wish I'd had the Plus or Premier package on my AAA membership to have the 100 or 200 mile tow feature. Being the quick learner I am I will have the upgrade tomorrow. LOL sorta.
Very interesting that it gives out after a shutdown.
Almost sounds electrical related except the pump is mechanical driven from the camshaft gear.
Yes, the HPFP isn't cheap but maybe they won't have to replace the entire fuel system which is a costly repair.
If internal components broke into pieces, my guess is they'll clean/replace downstream components too which can be everything I guess.
I know you'll keep us in the loop.
Downtime is never what we need.
At this point, best to wait for the official diagnostics when the tech returns.
