I drain about a pint of fuel...give or take. It's 2-3" in a mason jar. Let it sit and look for water drops in the bottom. I believe it would drain the tank dry if you didn't close it...
I drain mine monthly and did so yesterday and found very little came out. I drain into a mason jar and only got a few ounces. Normally, it's a steady stream and have a pint in no time but this time was just a trickle and had the plug wide open -- gasket shown. My tank had a less than 1/4 tank fuel whereas other times I've had half or more so maybe thats why? I had already changed out the fuel filters about 3K miles ago. Anyone else seen the same when draining?

Yes... But I haven't paid attention to my fuel level. I did try running my engine for a few seconds before draining and noticed good flow, but then again it could have been because my fuel tank could have been full.
Drained mine yesterday, about half a cup and found a redish sludge in the bottom of the cup. Guess it was remains of winter diesel or the additive I use. No water though

I run an additive and have winter fuel and have never seen anything different anytime of year. Just fuel. I do try to drain monthly.
How many miles since your last filter change? Algae?

My truck has barely 5200 miles on it. So, havent had to change Fuel filter yet. I try and drain it monthly also. This is the only time I have ever seen a redish substance in the bottom of the cup. Looked like redish lotion, lol

I drain my monthly but it's always been regular fuel, never any strange colored stuff. Did you save it?

I didnt, but Im going to drain it again this evening and see what it shows. If its in there again, Im gonna save it and take it to the service station and ask them.
You guys have me worried now, I have called 5 dealers and got everyones opinion on it and they tell me its probably just my additive (Optilube) or some bad fuel. They told me if the truck is running good not to worry, but thats easy for them to say. I asked them if I should change my filters and they told me not to worry about it, that bad fuel happens all the time. I dont wanna be stuck with a 10K bill if something happens.
Think Im gonna call my Insurance company and get that extra coverage.
To the OP, I didnt intend to hi-jack your thread, but I talked to several dealers today and they told me not to worry. I drained the separator again this evening and not a DROP of anything. No water or red lotion looking stuff. lol
