Not lying, mis-informed.
Post 4 in that link: 1972 Mercury Grand Marquis (no such thing as Grand Marquis, it was just Marquis back then) with a VIN engine code of A = 460 2V

TOTAL BS = 1968/78: A = 460 4V

What's the VIN engine code for a 460 2V? There isn't one, as FoMoCo never offered a 460 2V

Parts catalog wrong? Not in this case, cuz the same info is in the 1965/72 & 1973/79 L/M parts catalogs.

I was a Lincoln/Mercury parts manager 1971/73 and 1986/89, so I know what the hell I'm talking about.

It's the same old story, people claim this and that, but have no Ford parts catalogs, zero Ford part experience, so when their info is challenged, claim Ford parts catalogs are wrong.

O COME ON BILL. YOu know those books are wrong MOST of the time. I have a pinto that came from the factory with a 500 cu.in. caddi motor. I know this for a fact because the guy I bought it from told me so.

There was a 460 2V application years ago but, it was NOT in a car or truck. New Holland manufactured bale wagons called "Stackliners"-self propelled units which were used to pick hay bales up in a field and form a small stack of bales. You would back into where you wanted the stack to be and tip the bed up as you would a dump truck bed but, vertical and then release it and go back and get some more bales. We had a mpodel 1045 with a Ford 300 six. We were at a New Holland dealer getting some parts and looked at a couple of new ones. They both had 460's with 2bbl carbs. The IM was clearly for a 4bbl carb and had an adapter plate to make the 2bbl work.
