Long story short I have a 1993 f350 with the 351w and was told by 2 mechanics that it more than likely has a burnt valve. Compression test was done. The first told me that driving the truck with the burnt valve wouldnt cause any more problems. I was a little skeptical but took his word on it. This was about 3-4 months ago. Today I went to see the other mechanic and he said that driving it could have easily caused more damage and he wont know the extent of it until he opens it up to take a look. My question is who is right? Did I most likely cause more damage?
Basically a burnt valve is one that is damaged and will not allow to seal completely. Be it the valve or the valve seat(don't know what til you get it apart).
It's not "good" to continue to run it, as you don't really know the actual condition of it. It just shows up as low compression. It would likely need a seat and new valve anyway, so that's a given. Not really sure what he considers "making it worse"? It could last forever, if you baby it.
