Transmission Fluid Brand

Advance Auto Parts has a sale of D III/M for sale at $3/qt. Do you know who makes their fluid? Would it be okay to buy it for a 2004 Navigator? Thanks

As long as it meets Ford's specs for the transmission it should be fine. I personally use Mobil 1.

The only thing I see is it requires D3/M. Now I do know Mercon V is now approved. So I am not sure if Ford requires anything else special in the D3/M blend.

You'll be fine, but if you want to switch to Merc V, be sure to get ALL of the DIII/Merc out of the system as Ford says they are not compatable. I use Valvoline DIII/Merc.

I just bought it with 85k miles on it so i do not know what fluid is in it now. I will take my chance with the D3/M.

Since you just bought it, you should replace all fluids and filters for peace of mind.

When i bought, the engine oil was just changed, pinion seal was replaced so fluid should have replaced too. Air filter was nasty so I replaced and also ran Tecron cleaner through the tank. I will be buying everything needed to do the 90k service to do myself.
