Now i have never really been one for extreme safety and caution.
But 2 years ago i had a stage 3 shoulder seperation(3 torn ligaments)
and 2 months ago i shattered my tibia and fibula.
Now i am wanting to start a tough truck competition in the summer.
I am wondering about seats and neck braces that are good but still affordable.
I have to buy two systems. seen to many people nose plant and get knocked out to run a basic 5pt harness and a donut neck brace.
Was thinking a seat with helmet supports on the side and probably a hans system. probably cost 1600 per seat/neck brace/harness
May have to charge a fee for every passenger to pay for the second seat.

Any one have any better(CHEAPER) ideas.
Put padding on every surface of the interior. Obliviously not as good as a hans system but it will help and it is significantly cheaper.
Get the event tough truck rules and truck safety requirements, that way you are installing at least their minimums and then beef it up to what you think.
1. Roll "cage" not "bar" made out of quality material intended to build roll cages.
2. Tie rear bumper into the aft facing stand downs.
3. Tie the fwd cab bars to the frame.
4. Make the design on the cab back bar be narrow enough to go the frame rails.
You can trim a little off the bottom edge of the front frame horns an make HD skid plates to keep the front from pile driveing. Also distribuite some eng compartment weight the the rear.
Emergency external complete power off quick disconnect switch.
Fuel cell design, crash worthy tank, with roll over valve.
Also, almost every modern "monster truck" I have ever seen do not use seats. The driver stands and is held up by something resembling a swing if they become unable to stand.
I don't know, but the real monster trucks I've been involved with that were built by Patrick chassis ALL had custom made racing seats and Hans devices. At your level of participation, I think you can get by with a full cage (properly assembled, welded, and gusseted) that has been padded, a properly mounted SFI approved harness to strap you in, and a helmet/neck brace/fire suit and go racing. The truck will need to be setup to whatever rules your class needs. Probably using a fuel cell with roll over valve and a master cutoff switch within reach of the driver and another mounted in the rear. Oh and for reference on where to get some nice race parts :

if i remember correctly, there were only 1 or 2 trucks with that setup, and they were switched back to seats real quick.
The crazy suspension setups actually saw drivers getting hurt more. Whiplash was still an issue as the seatbelts would sort of tighten-loosen as the "suspension" deal moved with the bumps. Add to that the Hans device holding their heads and shoulders, lower back injuries started increasing. As a result, a bunch of the drivers started going back to a full foam padded aluminum or carbon fiber seat that would keep the belts tight and allow the Hans to hold like it's supposed to. I know the Andersons, Patricks, Tim Mente, and Mike Hawkins all use Butler seats. If I can ever save up enough money, I'll be ordering one for my truck!
