Bypass valve

I need to install a bypass valve when I create my new air intake between the air filter and blower. I have never needed a bypass valve and I have a question of volume.

I need to have one side of the valve come from the area between the blower and throttle body and the other side (return) will need to be fed into the 3.5" diameter pipe I have in between the air filter and back of the blower (the one I am going to create).

I am trying to determine if I need 4" pipe to handle the volume of air that is fed back into the system should the valve be open. Or will the capacity of the 3.5" pipe be enough?

Almost makes sense that if the valve is open and there is too much air for the system at the throttle body and it is vented into the valve, then wouldn't that mean once that extra volume of air is fed back there will not be enough capacity to handle?

Thanks

It's likely that the 3.5 inch will be fine. One issue you may run into with a draw through air meter is erratic idle behavior from the bypass valve discharge being too close to the back of the air meter. This becomes more of an issue with the larger valves like a Race or Mondo valve. The little plastic Bosch bypass valves usually work fine for most applications.
