I have a '99 f-250 sd sp ex-cab 4x4, and i know that it is past time to repack the bearings but, they are different than my last truck. could someone please help?
In over 30 years of owning cars and trucks (many of which went well over 100,000), I've never had a bearing fail. Of course, I've also made sure they were repacked every 30,000 miles, but still...
Why, when something isn't a problem, do they feel the need to fix it (usually with a fix that ends up costing me more $$$)?

Why no grease fittings from factory ?

Don't get me started on this guys or gals !
Melissa ,if you want bearings that are repackable
you can spend about $1500 for a dyna-trac front hub setup! when yours go bad!
Don't quote me on this but I heard more like $360-$385 for one side for parts only.
My understanding is that you have to buy a conversion kit with new hubs and spindles to fix the problem. Dynatrac makes the only kit that I'm aware of. There may be others that I'm unaware of though
I thought that I read some where (probably at TDS.com) that NAPA and some other places were going to be getting some repackable bearing that were a lot cheeper. I will see if I can dig up that info...

Yes..Sealed bearings Suk!! Anyway, there was a thread on here about a fella desighning a set or fixed bearing hubs for our beloved Super Duties. The Dyna Trac Kit is high I think. I think his name was lw555 that was building the hub kit. Hey...where you at LW??????? any updates for us? I think when a kit becomes available and my bearings go, I will convert then.

I've heard rumors that more than one company will be making a hub kit for our trucks (besides me). I can't say anything now about mine, since I don't pay for advertising and that wouldn't be fair.
Meanwhile, the cheapest place I've seen the unit hubs is at fordpartstore.com for about $270. Problem is, they are listed under rear wheel bearings and don't show up if you look for front wheel bearings. Look up "Bearings and Seals" for the group, then "Bearing,Wheel,Rear Hub Assembly" for the part. You'll see part numbers 515020 and 515021 which are the most common.

Well I just learned something, I can't repack my wheel bearings and its going to cost a week's paycheck to replace them. Is'nt that just great!! I wonder what other surprise's I'm in for.
