Help - need measurements

G'day from Australia. I'm rebuilding a 49 F3 and want to replace the Timken axle with a dana 60. I'm having trouble working out which year the donor vehicle needs to be though, does anyone have an accurate width measurement for a 57-60 F250 dana 60, from WMS to WMS? Thanks

When people swap 9 inchers into 1948/52 F1's, 1953/56 F100's, they get them from 1957/72 F100's as the rear frame width is the same.

So what you want is a F250 Dana 60 thru 1972.

A '59 would fall within that "57/72" range.

What is WMS?

Lost In Translation!

I guess we would say " flange-to-flange". Anyway, according to "Bassett Hound Bill"(a.k.a. NumberDummy) , that 59 near you will work. If you need measurements, I could try to get them from my 59 F250. When it warms up a bit later today, that is.

That would be great. When I say not far from home, I'm speaking in Aussie terms, still a 12 hour round trip to collect it, want to make sure it's right before I go.

I've known as "Edsel Bill" & "Packard Bill" away from the net, but not until now as "Basset Hound Bill."

I've owned 3 Edsels, 60 Packards and have been associated with 14 Basset Hounds, so the name is apropos!

Basset Hounds aka Overs: Over Lazy - Over Stubborn - Over Pampered. You don't own them, they own YOU!

You ARE referring, not to your "significant other", but to the Hounds, I assume (hope)?

I always figured you for a "kept" man, Bill.

LOL!

60 Packards, now I'm jealous. Got a bit of a thing for Packards but can't afford them, so I collect Pontiacs instead!

So what you want is a F250 Dana 57 thru 1972.
Here I fixed it, to save future confusion.

ha ha, nice one. Seems a shame to wreck a whole truck just for an axle but pre 72 F250s are beyond rare in Aus and I've had no luck trying to bring one in from the US.
