With the failure rate of the early switches, collapsed foam etc, you really need to look at a later system, like well on into the 90's when they went to the switch pods to the sides of the airbags. They had real switches then. and it may serve your purposes better.

Archion has a good point. My 94 Taurus has the pod mounts on each side, the on-off is left, resume, set, coast on the right.

Don't doubt what you're saying about the switches and I appreciate the suggestions but I already have a truck steering column and wheel that will bolt in and look right at home. The newer columns would have the additional issues of physical fit and I expect the electrical (turn signals, ignition, flashers) issues might be more work too.
