I am installing cruise control in a 78 f150. I just hooked up all the connections in the cab and I have no horn, no turn signals, brake lights are still working off the 2 prong switch. Any suggestions? The groundwire is hookep up and so is the black box for cruise.
Can you describe how you wired it? I'm not as familiar with the truck cruise control, but in the same-era cars, the cruise control harness piggy-backs the turn signal harness (meaning you disconnect the turn signal switch, put the cruise control harness in between, and reconnect). The piggy-back harness then goes off to the control unit.
If your '78 truck didn't have cruise control originally, then it wouldn't have a horn relay. However, the cruise control setup requires a horn relay. So I believe that the correct cruise control harness will have a lead for the horn relay. Again, though, this is the case for same-era sedans, so someone else may have better details. At the very least, however, I can tell you for sure that adding cruise control to a '78 or '79 truck requires the addition of a horn relay.
Got it straightened out for the most part. I pulled the cruise harness back off and started checking wires with a test light. I plugged the cruise harness back in and it started working. I guess it just didnt make a good connection the first time. I'll have to wait to make sure the rest of it works when I get my 4 speed tilt column in.
