Howellt39 - I have ran thru all the fuses about 4 times, none have blown. I replaced the DS UVCH because I could see bare copper where the insulation was cracked on four or five wires. Instructions for what everything should be reading would be awesome. As for all the wiring...I took everything off the top of the motor darn near and fully inspected the wiring harness all the way to the firewall. Surprising enough, Zero chaffing and the harness actually never appeared to have even made contact with the VC at all. All the connections looked good, still had some dielectric grease in them. I am located in Mankato, MN.
falconwrench - Everytime it dies has been basically directly across the road from radio towers. I've checked, cleaned and reinstalled around a dozen grounds already, gonna replace the IPR pigtail this week hopefully.
Checking Tugly's BEST map (link on his sig) the closest AE is in Vermillion, SD. Might want to PM "gdn" and see if you guys might be able to work something out.
This may sound bizarre, but you might try to find a local ham radio club. I may be able to help with that if you need. It really sounds like you have an RFI problem, and those guys are typically pretty good at sniffing those out. Let me know if I can help with finding you someone.
I don't know anything about RF shielding, but the HAM guys might. Wonder if there's something you can try wrapping the IDM/PCM in just to try. It sure does sound like RF interference.
Like those tin foil hats the UFO conspiracy guys wear...
Ha ha ha! I don't know about tin foil hats. May be a possibility. The other thing is if he's having trouble near one particular tower, there may be a transmitter problem at that tower. The guys that maintain the club repeaters are usually very good at ferreting out interference issues. I may be way off base, but it sure smells like RFI from here. RES86, I'll review the previous posts for your location and see if I can find a nearby club if you're interested.
I'll try the heater element, but last I looked it was all good. The thing that tells me that it isn't that would be that it is so intermittent yet expected in said places. RF is what I'm thinking as well, it almost seems like it has to be. Just seems weird that my truck is the only one that I have seen have this issue there. Vermilion is quite the haul, getting Horse S*** mileage right now too. Running with the ICP unplugged, getting around 165 miles to 3/4 tank. I drive with it plugged in anytime I'm on the east side of town and really don't have any issues.
Another issue I think I forgot to mention: When this all started I found that everytime I stood on the bumper/brushguard to look in the engine compartment, it would run fine. Thought bad ground/wire instantly. Couldn't find one. Is there one back there I may have missed?
Yeah, I know it's not ideal (Vermillion), just thought I'd throw it out there anyways in case you were headed that way for any reason.
You could fork over the dough for AE yourself. I did a while back and it's paid for itself many many times over already. About $350 or so, just FYI.
Yeah, that is come crap mileage. Dang. Thinking with your radio towers and the lack of variety with occurences plus others having RF trouble with things as benign as headlights, pretty suspicious, but can't say I've ever heard of it before.
I have read that the Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor mounted on the front of the engine can go bad and cause this also but not at a particular location. Research increasing MPG 7.3L on youtube. There is a video that shows you how to clean out the EBP Sensor tube. You may very well have a bad sensor.
what are the names of the two roads at the intersection, I want to google earth it and see the lay of the land............maybe spot an NSA microwave dish behind some trees
