VIN Decoding?
1978 f150 Im trying to decode the vin on this truck to see what motor is in it. VIN-F14HLEE5565. Trying to find out if this is a big block as my 400 is I want use the trans off of it for my 400 if it will fit. I have been told if the 351 has 8 bolt valve covers its a big block and if it has 6 its a small block like a 302. Is that true because this 351 has 8 bolt covers so does that mean the trans will bolt up? thanks for all the help.

If you have 8 bolt covers that means that and "Big Block" transmission will fit on your motor. If you have 6 any "Small Block" transmission will fit. If you have a "Big Block" and you are wanting a transmission make sure you get a transmission out of a truck that has a "Big Block" in it, make sure it isn't a diesel. The diesel transmissions have the same distance from bolt hole to bolt hole on the top but the bolt holes on the side are way different. I learned that from experience.
