Difference between 2000-2004 brake pads

Ok I just swapped a caliper out on friends 04 f250 6.0.

What is with those pesky little wire springy things under/connecting the pads.

Took me and another guy like 15 mins to get the dadgum pads in.

Anyway does my 2000 have those too??

Could I have just left them off??

Thanks,

The parts store epidodes with casting probs is another story.

Guess the silence tells me ours doesn't have the wire holders.

My 01 has them. When I went to EBC pads the holes were there but the springs were not included and one of mine was broken. I wasn't about to spend 10-20 on a rebuilt kit I only needed for the springs so I drive without one. They are there to help the pads pull away from the rotors to elongate life a bit. And yes, they are a pain to install

Thank you Greg! We figured it had to be some afterthought of Ford.

My 2000 has the exact same caliper part number as his 04.

Take Care

Brad

Yeah, I usually throw them out with the first change. Huge PITA with very little if any benefit. I don't notice any rattle.

Sounds like you pulled the whole caliper and bracket together. They are no problem if you pull the caliper off the bracket.

Them things are a PITA. Took me about 30 min each caliper by myself. I must of said every word in the book to trying to get them on.

I vaguely remember someone saying something about how they're somewhat more important on the front than the rear, so when I did my brakes, I ordered some extra springs and installed them. They were fairly cheap and if they help, why not?

Bend The CLIPS

G'day Fellas,

Just grab the little right hand bend at the end of the wire clip with a pair of pliers. Slightly bend that tip out a little and slip them into the little holes in the pad backing plate. It will grip in there much better and not keep popping out .
Works every time for me .

Cheers,
Reg
