I have a 1983 F700 and I need a rear window weather seal. I went to Ford to get the oem number to cross reference against after market items. My problem is that in 1996 Freightliner bought Ford's medium and heavy duty line and therefore Ford's system is so outdated that their computer won't even recognize my VIN number. So I call Freightliner and their response was that they have no application for anything below an L series, which is the 8000 and above. Does anyone have any idea where I can find a part number? I took a shot and bought a NOS weather strip off ebay that was supposed to fit f150-f350 from 1980-1996, but it's too small. I was hoping someone out there would have a factory manual or spec sheet that could help me! Thanks.
There are different seals between the 1973-1981 sliders, 1982-1996/7 sliders, between fixed window and sliders, between fixed windows for 1973-1979, 1980-1996/7, different seals for moulding or without.
There are at least six different seals between the years 1973-1996/7. All the windows are interchangeable between these years, if you use the right seal with the window you get.
I have a fixed window from a 1973-1979 in my 1981 for example, using the 1977-1979 seal with bright flexible trim. The 1973-1979 window is thicker than the 1980-1996/7 counterparts, and the seal is different to compensate the extra thickness.
Aftermarket suppliers like to lump all the years together, and some ill fitting windows have resulted because of window/seal mismatch. It didn't help that in 1980, Ford superceeded all the 1973-1979 windows and seals with the newer thinner 1980-1996/7 types.
Something to be aware of if swapping rear windows around. I have all the details of this somewhere in another thread somewhere, with corresponding part numbers...

D3TZ-1042084-A: For Solid Window without chrome trim. 1973-1979 and Factory Slider: 1973-1981.
D3TZ-1042084-C: For Solid Window With Chrome Trim: 1973-1977 before serial #080000
D7TZ-1042084-A: For Solid Window with narrow Trim: D7TZ-1042430-A: 1977-1979 From Serial #080000
E0TZ-1042084-A: For Solid Window, without trim: 1980-1996/7
E0TZ-1042084-B: For Solid Window, With Trim: D7TZ-1042430-A: 1980-1996/7
E2TZ-1042084-A: For Sliding Rear Window: Requires Trim: D7TZ-1042430-A: 1982-1996-97
Therefore, a window seal for a solid rear window should be the same between 1973-1996. The differences are only in quality, and whether or not you have a solid window, with molding, without molding, or a sliding rear window.
Look this up to verify, Shaun, I remember Ralph explaining it here.
