Yep, I just de-smogged my Calif. 79 F150 when we dropped in a new engine in it a month ago. I'm in WA state and could not believe what we left on the shop floor, sheesh. We now have vac adv to distributor, vac to auto trans. and vac to power steering. That's it and man is it sweet to work on now. : )
I have printed your diagram but notice there is no use of a manifold vacuum.... Doesn't the 302 have one ??I have the 360...I am inclined to think that the EGR should come off that, to the temperture switch, then to the EGR because of the more vacuum it seems to take to operate it ......Does this sound reasonable.??
Most likely not. The later model trucks, like my '79 (not sure on the earlier ones) utilize both exhaust backpressure AND the ported vacuum signal. There's usually a wide open throttle release valve that bleeds the ported vacuum signal off to the EGR for the additional power demanded. Incedently, it also shuts down the Thermac too. So, there are driving times when you don't want the EGR to open - ie WOT and idle. Most of the opening work is done by the exhaust gas, the vacuum signal is like a simple "gate" that regulates on / off ability. A worn / dirty EGR valve tends to stick open, open too much, or not enough due to age. Most of the published vacuum diagrams only have emission / spark control related systems included - no mention of tranny or brake booster requirements to be fitted to manifold vacuum. I used a bike pump and a vacuum gage to test this function - it requires three hands.
I don't think my collection of diagrams is as complete as I thought. Go to tetraruby300.freewebsitehosting.com -> emissions data link -> others link Sorry, I can't hot link.
Notice that the model mentioned is F100. I don't have any diagrams for a 360 other than the F100 ones. This was the only one for a 4X standard. It should at least get you started. The plumbing appears relatively simple. I have on other diagram that covers F100 - 360 4X w/ a 3.50 rear. No mention of AC on any of the calibrations. Can post the other if needed. Hope it helps.
Tetraruby,
Can I get you to post the '73 F100 360 2W Automatic vacuum diagrams? Numbers should be 3-56A and 3-56C. I've been looking for this information for years. You da man .
