I found someone who will take just about everything im stripping off my 49 F1. I honestly have no idea what things are worth. I thought maybe i could get some estimates here.
Things like: 3 speed trans, cab tool tray, steering box, front axle assembly, and maybe( I do mean maybe) my original instument cluster.
The cluster is a maybe because with this 89 mustang harness I know the tach is electronic. Everything else i dont know yet.
not being an expert on your truck but so many things come into play....maybe this is the biggest ....we are dealing in a "want" industry. not a "NEED" industry. meaning that its only worth what some is willing to pay. at the junk yard its worth weight....to some one that needs your cab tool tray, you could name your price. then, where in the country are you located, urban? way out country? east coast? western plains??? shipping is big nowadaze and eats up value quickly. so, take these things with you, grasshopper, and follow the fte network!!!!
In terms of need/want. I am basically one stop shopping. he would have to drive 3 hours for pick up. Im not looking for fair value on the stuff. Im trying to not shoot for too high of a dollar amount. I will basically be completing his truck. He wants original stuff, I want hot rod stuff. Im not selling this stuff to make money, im selling it for funds for my own ride vision. im the type of guy to cut a deal to see a vintage with original parts in it, but i dont want robbed blind at the same time.
Personal opinion, take whatever he'll give you for driveline stuff. You certainly don't want to give him the impression you're warranteeing any of it, which a high price might do, and it's cluttering up your shop and yard, just get rid of it.
That doesn't apply to the tool bin or the gauges, they are worth good money.
thanks guys i think i have a rough idea. I did find a set of gauges I like. And they will not fit the original or after market gauge panels. I just havent decided if they are $800 plus dollars nice
If the steering box/column is real good it is worth up to $100 to the right person.
Tool tray I myself wouldn't sell for less than $50
^^ That is how much location matters... ^^ there are 3 relatively close to me listed for $20 that have been for sale for months.
I would agree that although you may get "lucky" and get good money if you hold on to parts, they do not move easily... I have stuff that has been posted for months at prices below ebay, because I do not want to package and ship and deal with all that bs. Someone who is easy to work with is worth giving a good deal to.
Trying to sell things is really a hassle, people expect 15 pictures of an item you are trying to sell for 20 bucks just to get rid of... Out with the old, in with the new. Look forward to your build thread.
Nice puppy, I have an almost 8yr old black and tan who is my helper when I am wrenching. Considering getting another before (well you know how it goes) because this one is trained so well.
I totlly agree on the out with the old and in with the new. Thats why I made this post. I didnt want to guess too high on a price and scare people away. Im good with money and i do value it. But sometimes money isnt everything. I would like to see this guys truck at a meet or show sometime and be able to say I'm glad I could help you make this truck happen. Money doesnt give you satisfaction like that.
Now things like the tool tray, I'm not against incorporating into my truck. But its more of a " I have it I will use it" thing. I by no means desire it. If I can get a few bucks for it great, if not I may use it. Thats the best part about hot rodding. I get to choose what i want.
My puppy isnt a puppy anymore. She is a full grown 90lb red(brown) and tan. I spoiled her(surprise) and she has the mindset of a 2 year old. Impatient, demanding, and throws tantrums.
These really do it for me. I just get that feeling in my gut when I look at them. Scroll down for the other pictures and you will see the red and black set. I will put the angle grinder and the stick welder to work to make those fit.
I recently sold a 3 speed trans with the clutch equalizer rod for $95. I usually sell the cab tool trays for $40. Steering boxes usually go for $125 in any decent and complete condition. The hot-rodders use them in their Model As or other similar projects. I usually get about $100 for the front brake/hub assemblies. They're also popular with hot-rodders that are switching to juice brakces. Springs and front axle are not popular, but I usually try to get about $75-100 for a pair of front springs if someone is in need. The cluster, depending on condition, can be expensive. Most clusters that I've seen, however, were not in the best of shape. You'd be lucky to get $40 if it's worn out. I once sold an almost NOS cluster assembly for $100, which was too cheap. When it comes to evaluating the condition of the cluster, you have to look at what condition the "waffle" insert and gauges are in. The "waffle" cannot be replicated if the cluster assembly needs to be restored.
Brakes, springs, axle and trans are too heavy to ship, so most sales would have to be local. The sterring box can be shipped along with the cluster and tool tray.
