Quick! Whats It Worth?

Hey guys! Here in about 30 min im going to go look at a 1989 F-250 at a dealership. Heres the details:

1989 F-250 (pretty sure XL... no carpet and has vinyl)
7.3L IDI
5 Speed Manual
4x4 w/ manual lockouts
191,000 on the odo
2 dr, long bed

Good bit-o-rust on rear fender wells above tire. While it was getting detailed, they backed a tractor into the drivers door. Its wrinkled pretty bad and you have to pick up on it and slam it to close it. Pretty torn up bench seat. I started it and listened to it run. Supposedly hadn't been started in awhile and took 4 attempts w/ glow plugs warming up each time. Did the typical diesel knock for about 20 seconds max then leveled out and ran like a top. Didn't go for a test drive yet. Tires aren't leaning in too awful bad from being backed in if you know what I mean. Been on the lot for about 6 months

Asking price: $3500
Came down to $3100 because its "on sale"
KBB Value for a 1992 in Excellent Condition: $3100. What a coincidence....
No way in Hell I'm paying that price
Whats the more realistic price?

Tell the dealer you'll give them $3100 if they fix the rust and the door

They prob. won't fix the rust, but since the door damaged happened on their watch, they should be able to get that fixed on their business insurance. I'd say $3100 with the door repaired; I wouldn't trust them with the rust work anyway, they'd prob. just do some hideous bondo job if anything.

Heres an update:

He ticked me off. Told me the manager wasn't there to negotiate the price after driving an hour. AND I CALLED HIM BEFORE I LEFT!!! I wasn't in such a great mood lol.

He came down to $2900 but I still feel like that's too high for an essentially wrecked truck. KBB doesn't give a "Fair" price if buying from a dealer. But the $3100 is for a 1993, not a 1989...

On the positive side, I took it for a test drive. It was honestly the tightest clutch Iv ever drove! Needs adjusted but besides that, it drove great!

I paid $2700 for mine a few weeks ago it is a Lariat and it has an ATS turbo...
219,000 miles on mine, a touch over 70,000 on a rebuilt engine.
Dealers suck.

^^^ I agree but they do have to make a profit somewhere.

Update: Called me back again. "Bottom dollar" is $2750. They supposedly bought it for $3000. That's no fixed door, no rust repair, no warranty. I said Id probably take it for $2500, which still seems high to me, but he didn't act interested.

I started out offering $1000 cash lol. The guy asked me if I was really interested in it lol. I came up to $1800 cash and they still weren't interested. If they call me back, I might offer them $2300 or something and see where it goes. I honestly don't NEED the truck but itd be nice to have! Not to mention the 8 mpg savings over my 460

That's exactly what I said lol. Theyd have to be STOOPID to pay $3000 for a truck that books for less than $3100 to sell. They honestly think this truck is a gold mine when in fact its not that desirable. (IMO at least)

I am guessing they gave someone 3k on a trade in on some other over priced car, so they really didn't pay that much for it...

There is no way that thing is worth that!

I'd give him 2k for it, not 2050$, 2000$ period. Take it or leave it. Don't worry....they'll call you back.

No one in there right mind would pay anything over that for that thing.

Fender rust isn't much though, that's a typical Ford thing, but hows the rest of it? Take a good hard look at the car corners, from underneath, and from the inside! They love rotting out from the inside to, cause typical Ford window seals leak, and rots out the inside.

I looked it over good. Shackles look great, leafs look great, everything looks great other than the bed rotting off of it and the smashed door. I personally don't care about cosmetics though. It ran and drove awesome. Two things I did notice though are the clutch is grabby. Not too big of an issue, but when I let off of the gas and keep the clutch engaged, itd kinda jump? Then if I hit the gas again, itd jump. I dunno if that's typical or not. My other issue was it was taching 2200 rpm going 65. It was SCREAMIN! It must have a hellaciously low gear ratio

This is a good comparison. Lower miles and no rust. Is it a regular or super cab? (they are all two door) not a dime more than $2000.00 in my opinion.
