Alternative Engine Oil

My parts dealer in the UK has just informed me that his US supplier will not ship Motorcraft CJ4 15w40 anymore (customs' issues with flammable liquids).

I can purchase Rotella or Rimula over here in the UK but they are CI4 spec.

Does anyone use an alternative to Motorcraft and will CI4 oils cause any engine damage?

I have had the truck from new in early 2007 and have had no problems or parts replaced other than normal fluid and filter changes.

Thanks.

John in the UK

Are you deleted? If so, I don't see any major problem with CI4. But if you're still stock, CJ4 is required due to ULSD. CJ4 handles soot much better as well so deleted is a must if you intend on running CI4 and oil analysis is a must as well.

My question:

1) Is your truck a short bed or long bed?
2) How much does it cost to fill up??

Im guessing a LB truck would be around 450-500.00 US ( bloody hell )

Hi RM2738,

Many thanks for your response.

No, I'm not deleted and the truck is stock. Reading the link in your second post, it would seem that I have no option but to use CJ4.

Will search UK oil suppliers again tomorrow.

Thanks.

We use Rotella in our 6.4L, have also used others brands just as long as it is CJ4. Have actually never used motorcraft 15w40.

Hi Ding126,

Truck is long bed and the cost to fill up in the UK is $330, although we have paid $370 in remote parts of the Scottish Highlands.

If we keep allowing our government to do what they're doing, we'll be paying that.
