blowing oil filter seals
Just wanted your opinions on a problem that is coming my way. I am being given a 68 f250 with a 360 in it. I guess it runs but it keeps blowing out the oil filter seal. I will know more about it when I get it . My first thought is oil pump pressure relief valve stuck or faulty. Anyone else have any previous experiences with this?

I agree with your thoughts. I had this problem before and the bypass valve was stuck and was pushing over 100psi and blowing out the seal. I say replace the oil pump and take a look in the oil pan for debris.

Mine didn't just blow the seal, it deformed the filter first. It blew shortly after initial fire up ( fresh rebuild ). Changed the filter and tried again. Someone watched as the filter grew in length until the seal pulled away from the block. It actually deformed the heavy steel end that screws against the block, and the outer end was shaped like a hemi piston. I watched the oil pressure gauge closely the second time. When I started it, the needle hit the back side of the peg ( mechanical gauge ), which would have been 140+ psi. Of course, that was the only time I didn't check the relief to see if it was free before installing a new oil pump ( Murphy's Law ).

Yep. Oil pump pressure relief valve. I had the valve hang up in the 352. It deformed 2 filters, and blew the 3rd open at the seam. Go out to the truck to go to school. Start it. Then "Pop!" Oil light goes on. 
Shut it off, open hood. Oil everywhere and the filter base is still screwed on with the filter blown apart at the seam sitting 90* to the base. Put in a new driveshaft too when you replace the pump.
