I have discovered that my proportioning valve is shot on my 79 F250 4x4. It looks like a dealer item @ $150.00 (ouch).
What I was thinking of doing and wonder if anyone else has done or if it would work is to tie the two fronts lines together using a 3 way splitter and attach them directly to the master cylinder, then since the rears are already tied together install an inline adjustable proportioning valve (from summit for $40.00) between the rears and the master cylinder. It would seem that I could fine tune the brakes with this type of valve and get exactly the feel I want. Any thoughts???
Usually works ok, but that really isnt a proportioning valve. What your looking at is a combination valve, that has a proportioning valve in it. It also has a metering valve that keeps the front brakes from grabbing too quickly and locking up, because you have front disc and rear drum brakes.
Hey workin hard, give these guys a call 248-437-5060. They have factory style valves, the ford valve is $119 part# 22520 and an aftermarket valve for $49 part# 22522. Hope this helps.
Thanks 44Bogger for the info . I called Bronco grave yard like you said. They claim there is only one ford # no after market is avalible. the price is $119.00. Gona have to give it some thought as I'am a little short on cash right know, however going with an origanal would be cool and retain the warning light. Thanks for your help.
