true security is a myth, virtually impossible.
I'm not worried abotu a dedicated and trained proefssional setaling my truck, I'm worried about a crackhead or a teen joyrider.
If some professional theif really wants my car, NOTHING can stop them, so I don't worry about that.
Keep the vehicle cleaned of personal items and insured. Problem solved.
Great thread. The 2012 super duty I just bought doesn't have remote start either, but it was the one feature I really wanted. I asked my dealer about them doing installs on some of the stuff I wanted. They told me I'd be better off getting it done somewhere else. I didn't even know you could buy the factory remote start then install it afterward. I'm going to start a new thread about rear view cameras, heated/cooled seats, and memory power seats installed after purchase too!

I agree...except todays hackers are the clean cut 16 year olds.....and more impotantly, it opens the door to kidnapping of your wife, child, etc. If you can get in the vehicle without anyone knowing, lock & secure, re-activate the alarm, no one knows the wiser......the psyco, child molestor, etc, now awaits in your vehicle with full control.

no, this is actually part of my professional expertise.......check this out....this is how for about $100 can steal all of your credit card information with not even touching you or your card..........

Thieves can also intercept the signal of the remote start just as easily. In the end I have car insurance and if my credit card number gets stolen I will report it and get my money back...no worries.
I would go with the Ford system - I think some of the others are too complicated and I have towed way to many aftermarket start systems that fail and then won't start. Have fun!!

Ugh! That's disturbing.
Earlier in this thread, there were references to two-way OEM remote start systems, then later someone stated you cannot get two-way from Ford. Can anyone confirm the availability of a two way from Ford?
Additionally, do you get stand alone remote start, or add a perimeter alarm as well? My insurance company offers a little discount for alarmed vehicles. Once again, it's not fulproof, but might keep an inexperienced thief out.

You most definitely CAN get a FORD 2 WAY system. In fact, there are two to choose from. The cheaper is just a 2 way remote start, the more expensive model includes a shock sensor and alarm component (it also requires that a hood sensor be installed, mine have always had that factory installed).
I've installed the 2 way with shock sensor on both my 2011 F250 and 012 F150. It is very simple to do. The only catch is that if the truck hasn't been programmed to know that the starter is installed, you will need to take it do a dealer to change the programming. Some will do it for free (it takes about 2 minutes), others will charge you for it.
There are several threads in the F250/350 forum about it, including detailed installation instructions.

Yes they do have it...they call it bi-directional remote start. Just go to the build a truck section on Ford.com and you can see them. One is $299 and the other is
$356 (which is the one with the sensors and can start up to 3 football fields away) both of them have the ability to start your AC or heated/cooled seats)

You are absolutely right!!!!! In public assembly areas (especially during the holidays) I avoid using any remote to lock a vehicle....it just makes it that much more inconvenient for someone to "borrow" my vehicle.
So the bottom line is I can go to my local Ford dealer and buy a plug and play remote start that I should be able to install myself? Will it have a FOB to attach to my key ring or new keys with the start button that I need to program? Also how much is the price difference if I have them install and program new keys for me? Any guesses?
