Hello, this is my first post here. I've been viewing the posts and have found loads of info. I recently purchased a restored 86 F150 shortbread Lariat and it has the chrome bed rails. I've been thinking of removing the rails and adding a trifold cover, but I'm not sure if when the screws that hold down the bed rails are removed if the nuts/ or nut plates will drop down in the bed tubes under the rectangular openings in the corners of the bed. Any tips or information will be appreciated.
There's a bottom plate in the pockets. If a plate falls, it should stop there and just use a magnetic pick-up tool or long needle-nosed pliers. Worst case scenario for the rear, you'll have to pull the tail lights to fish out the parts down further.
Welcome to FTE! Please show us pictures of your truck. A restored short bed Lariat would be a treat to see. And, how 'bout going to User CP (Control Panel) and filling out your location info. You may be close to one of us and we frequently get together to swap tales and parts - or just to hang out.
81 ChopTop, thanks for the info. Thinking of taking the rails off for a bit to see how a cover looks. Gary, will attempt to load some picks soon as I'm not all that techno in that department.
