Hi There,
I have been having nothing but problems with my 05 escape, it is in the shop almost monthly at this point. I have replaced the battery, computer, 2 coils just within the last few months. So the other day when the stupid thing would not start in my garage i decided to try to fix it myself, as i am sick of paying for things on it not to mention a tow. My problem this time was the fuel pump driver module. I replaced this, with no problem and now the car runs. Yay! But now my gas gauge does not work. Is this a common problem after replacing a fuel pump driver module? any ideas or suggestions on how to fix it?
I am not familiar with the term "fuel pump driver module", but if you replaced the 'sender' that is mounted to the top of the fuel tank, it includes the bits that signal the fuel gauge. If that was what you replaced, then I'd check to make sure that all the connections on the top of the tank are tight, not chafed, and don't have cut insulation. The sender unit itself has a float that may have been tied in place at the factory to prevent damage in shipment, which would have to have been released prior to installation. The float is attached to an arm and a pivot point, and must be able to move to signal the gauge.

I replaced part number 5L8A-9D372-AD. It was located at the rear wheel wheel. it seems to be fully connected.... the car starts now, so i am taking it to the shop again tomorrow.
The fuel pump and sending unit are installed into the top of the fuel tank. They are accessible without dropping the tank through an access panel under the drivers side rear seat bottom cushion. In general, there are signal, power, fuel and vapor connections where the sending unit is installed. In addition it is held in place by a washer that wedges against the tank and compresses an o-ring to seal the tank. It can be removed and replaced in a matter of minutes.

As I understand it the fuel filter is inside the gas tank. Can it be changed through this access panel? Is it a filter only change or is it a one piece unit that includes the sending unit, fuel gauge sending unit and filter Change?
