brian1080 if you do find a truck with twin D60's unless the owner is not so smart (read stupid, and does not know the $$ a front D60 can bring itself) then you are probably going to have to go with a D44 front and D60 rear.....
I happen to have a few spare sets of what you need, 2 sets of front and rear D60's and 2 sets of D44/D60. I do know what they can bring on the open market, so No I will not sell the D60 F&R set for $500, lol
It's just like anything else. I bought an F250 years ago with a Dana 60 front and rear. After 30+ years, you just can't go by factory specs anymore. There's no telling what someone swapped in or out of these trucks over the years. The first owner maybe wanted to make it bullet proof and did a bunch of work and the next owner or two just didn't care what was under the truck as long as it went forward when he put it in gear.
You have to know what you're looking for and be able to identify parts by looking at them. That's the only way to find what you want these days. I've had people swear up and down they had a short bed pick up and when I went to look at the truck the bed was 8' long! How do you expect these morons to identify axles correctly?
yeah, I know about the 60's and what to look for. I keep hoping to find a good deal on them. That one that wants to trade for a jeep wants 3000 cash, already talked to him. I'm not interested in spending that much right now, so I'll keep looking. I think I'll try a couple of those others you posted.
Looks like somebody threw down the gauntlet and Rich has responded. There's something for Rich to learn about these trucks?
Chip you are friggin funny, "responded" yea right. I might know a little thing or two about these ol rigs. I can read ya know....lol. And FYI you CAN get a D60 under a F250.
How do I know that?? I got one, thats how. My maroon parts truck has a D60 under it.
Brian, get a front and rear spring pad overall width measurement off the possible new axles, and go from there.
Well, I'm sure they're out there, but more than likely a F250 in his price range will have a d44 front. So it's not an upgrade for him. That's what I was trying to say. If he wants a d60 front, he needs to look for 350s and they were more common in them, as in all 350s. Not saying they didn't ever come with a 60.
have you seen very many f350's? I haven't. But there are a lot of 250's out there, and considering I'm not after a good body/engine, I'll find a cheap one with 60's eventually.
BTW, it's not an upgrade regardless of being a 44 or 60. I sold the completely redone axles out of it last year, so it has NONE right now. They were half ton axles and I had always planned on putting 3/4tons under it.
I think those SD axles are out. He wants $500 for the pair, but the rear needs calipers/rotors/bearings and the front needs caliper hardware and hubs. Basically $500 for the axles then another $500 to make them usable,, I'm better off looking for the right 60 for that amount.
I need to find someone that will trade me an F250 for my F150.
Look for super duty axles, commonly a D60 front and Sterling 10.5" rear. I found F450 axles the other day that were D70 Front and Dana 110 rear for 1500$ I think? Might limit wheel choices, but still not a bad deal.
If you find a good F350 and part it out, you should feel ashamed! 70's F350s in ok condition are tough to find in my experience...
so any of you seen any f250's lately? I've missed just about every one listed here and I've been scouring CL looking and am getting tired of hearing "sold already". Figured I'd see if any of you have some that you've seen. I've got the cash in hand and no truck to spend it on.
