Headers for '96 4.9?

I've been poking around the internet for awhile now trying to track down headers that will fit my truck, but I can't seem to locate any. Has anyone seen them or am I chasing a jack-o-lope on this one?

You're not going to find anything that flows much better than your stock EFI manifolds. They are already split into two banks of three and have pretty good flow characteristics. You might look into the HD exhaust manifold that was used in large trucks and industrial applications.

I'd also suggest keeping the stock split manifold.

There doesn't seem to be much you can do with this engine or the 2WD model.

Unless you have a full on "Race" engine....

Stick with OEM..

Hedman Headers has a set for about $200, from Summit Racing...

But for $200, you have have the camshaft nearly swapped out....And see TRUE gains.

I looked around Summit and only found the Dorman OE replacements for the front. But given the general consensus, I shall stick to OE.

Only difference in the Hedman style, and the OEM ones, are;

The Hedman brand is a 1 pc unit, instead of being 4 pc

All the pictures I have seen for the manifolds have been one piece designs. Is the four piece stock and replacements one piece?

The OEM pieces are technically just 2 pc sets-

2 of those..^

The aftermarket OE style are just that...

The Hedman units are like this-

So you can see, all you're doing is simply moving the Connector Flange lower....

I see. Aside from aesthetics, there is no difference really.

You got it..

The only REAL gains, are, as I said...

If you're racing the thing, or have it fully "Built"

Which, I HIGHLY doubt.

stick with the stock manifolds. in the good old days youd see a increase because the engines had high compression. these engines are low compression and besides the split dual exhaust manifolds that come whit the 4.9 are really good.

I find this sentence in their description highly suspect...

Average gains on a stock engine are 18-22% when bolting on this header.

Someone should ask to see the dyno sheets documenting this claim.

Just use the Walker 45166 2 1/2" Y-pipe, and take an 1 7/8" hole saw to ream out the crappy little hole where they weld them together.
