You can focus on shift points and add just a little power to reduce lag from the stock tune. You always dance the fine line and it has to be self discipline.

I run the SCT with Matt's SRL tune. Good power while keeping the cylinder pressures down so you're not blowing your heads off.

The canned SCT tunes are pretty good.

Matt at Gearhead and Vivian at QuickTricks are well respected for their tunes. I have a couple of Vivian's tunes the Looney Tune and Looney Mild.

Looney Tune is a rocket ship, Looney Mild is about on par with the canned SCT Performance tune.

With that said, I usually run the SCT "Street" tune.

I thought the SCT street tune made scary power so I backed it down to the 65 hp tow tune

Really? It's pretty tame compared to the Performance tune. The Looney Tune will make you crap your pants if you're not paying attention.

On Christmas Day I headed to the slopes for a day of snowboarding and there and back at 400 miles I got 20.5 mpg with the Street Tune.

I only get around 15 mpg highway with the Looney and around 17 with the SCT Performance Tune.

Does your truck have studs? I'm on my phone so I can't see your signature

Nope.

The SCT Performance tune and the Looney/SRL are supposed to be safe for non-studded trucks.

Oh right on, that's why I backed it down, I didn't want to lift the heads so I ran it for a few miles and when I saw how much power it made I took it right home and backed it down.

I haven't dealt with Matt @ Gearhead, but it sounds like he is similar to Vivian in that we exchanged several emails to dial in the Looney Tune to my combination and driving style.

I had a similar concern with head gaskets etc with how much power the Looney made, so she created the Looney Mild for me.

But.... like I said I use the SCT Street Tune as my DD. I have been curious about the Tow tune, just too lazy and not curious enough to load it.

Does it drive pretty good? Good power and shifting?

I like the tow tune, plenty of power and it shifts good.

We have the Infinity programmer/monitor if you are interested too. It will do all you need it to and more.

With it you can monitor PID's(boost, ECT, EOT, trans temp, etc.), run KOEO/KOER tests, load tunes, play media, and much much more.

Let me know if you are interested and I will be glad to help you out with any questions you may have.

Then don't waste your money on a intake elbow, they aren't worth it, no MPG gain or HP gain. If you want, buy a intake elbow for a 05-07, but still no gain except you get to eliminate the EGR throttle body on the 03's.
