While changing my plugs I found a wire at the front of the engine. It comes down the right side "When facing engine" then turns left right by the radiator hose inlet. It is a small elbow about 18 gauge and is a red wire. I can not see where this would plug into. It was behind the top water inlet and just in front of the Fuel pressure regulator.
If there is a connector on the end, mine has the same mystery wire and I have never been able to determine why it was there. I assume this was for a smog pump or similar accessory for California or export models.
A single post connector like that is used on the water temperature sensor, the one that send info to the temperature gauge. There is a second, coolant temp. sensor with a 2 wire connector that feeds data to the electronic engine control unit.
There is also a knock sensor in that vacinity, but I cannot recall offhand if it uses a single or double wire lead. I'll try to remember to check the manual this evening and post back.
I think I know what it's for. This is the second EB edtion I have had and I bet it's for a regular sensor. Since I have a Digitial dash I bet I don't use it.
My 89 van has that stupid wire too! I thought it was a wire for a temp sensor or something. I also have the digital dash too. (I LOVE the digital dash!) It might be for that! I dont know.
