87 f150 does nothing

I took apart my truck and replaced the flywheel and oil pan, now that I have it back together it's like I'm getting no power to the starter. I've checked the ground and the linkage and its not In Gear. Can anyone please help. Thanks.

Welcome to FTE. For future reference, you'll want to post questions about your '87 in this forum: 1987 - 1996 F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Can you please clarify your last sentence? It doesn't make sense. What linkage are you talking about? Something to do with the shift linkage and the NSS?

No, nothing happens at all. The only electrical I disconnected was the ground.

I would check for voltage at the fender mounted relay and also from the positive terminal cable to the starter cable. That would be my first point in troubleshooting. If there isn't voltage present at the relay, then check the cable going to it from the starter.

Ok, replacing the neutral switch fixed the starter problem and led me to a new one. It is binding somewhere. While the transmission is tightened to the motor I can't turn the motor by hand, but when I loosen 3 bolts I can. Is this because the torq converter isn't on the input shaft?

the torque converter goes on in two steps. put it on the first step turn it till it seats fully on the other shaft.

When I separated the transmission from the motor I didn't take the torq converte completely off the transmission just enough to unbolt it from the fly wheel.

if you moved it out and turned it you will have to turn it and put it back in tight then bolt it to the flywheel

Is there a trick to getting to torq converter to seat fully onto the transmission input shaft while it is sitting only about 3 inches from the motor? I've been turning it and applying pressure but its not budging.
