Took a 600 mile round trip today from central Missouri down through the Ozark hills/mountains to Jonesborough, Arkansas and back to pick up a truck my son bought on Ebay. Going down I just had my 18' flatbed car hauler that weighs in at about 2000 lbs. Got 18.1 mpg calculated with a heavy cross wind. Pulled all the way in 6th gear. On the way back with the Ranger loaded aboard I got 14.2 bucking a strong head wind. The trailer loaded was 5400 lbs. I locked out 6th gear and it towed in 5th even through the hills. It was awesome. There were a lot of slow/passing lanes on the hills for slower traffic that I thought I may need to use but never needed to with all the reserve power. It never got above 2500 rpm's even on the longest steepest grades. Just set the cruise at 66 and it chugged along at 1800 rpm's. Many folks were staring in disbelief as I blew by them up hill. I have an EcoBoost 2WD with 3.15 gears by the way. If it was set up with gears for towing I can't imagine what this thing could do. <!-- / message -->

Getting 18.1 and 14.2 loaded does not sound bad, and I'm assuming it's not a Diesel as EcoBoost implies a V6, and it's in an F150?

I average between 10-10.9mpg while towing our 33' travel trailer. Loaded weight is between 7500-8000lbs. This little motor is AMAZING!!! I am going on 2yrs of ownership without a single issue and it still puts a smile on my face every time i get behind the wheel.
I am pulling about 10,500 (Travel Trailer) and have 2 Honda scooters (170 lb each) in the bed. I have a 12 EB FX4 6.5 bed. I towed from Tillamook to Winchester Bay Oregon, along the coast, with 4 to 6 degree hills. I have the Max Towing with the 3.73 rear and I averaged 9.8 mpg.
Pulling a 33' stick and Tin jayco, wet at 11k pounds with EB, Crew cab, 4 x 4, max tow, got 8.9 MPG towing in southern Indiana, absolutely amazed with this truck! 8K miles on it now. Getting 20MPG combined with a light foot. It is very important to watch the instant MPG when driving. Not sure why some are complaining out MPG, you have to keep your foot out of it to get good mileage!! haha But man it is fun to get one it once in awhile!! I loved my 5.4 but the EB just rocks! Concerned about long term maintenance costs tho, perhaps around 150k miles.
I have a 2013 Max Tow Lariat 4x4 on order with the 3.5 EcoBoost, and this info sounds encouraging. I tow a 33' TT, and get about 7-8 mpg with my present 5.4 while towing it, speeds around 70 mph on the highway.
I tow a 32' Keystone Passport that weights just over 7000 lbs. with my 2011 F150 with Ecoboost, 2WD with 3.55 gear. I got about 10.5 mph with the stock P-rated 18" tires. I like the increased stability of LT rated tires though, but the fuel mileage suffered and I get a calculated mileage now of about 8.5 to 9 mph depending on conditions and the weight of my right foot.
