If that '65 is even halfway decent, BUY IT! Any '61-'67 Lincoln is a magnificent car, and $2,500 is a streal, but watch out for the folowing:
1) Electrics. This area can be a real headache. Try EVERY electrical device before buying, and then decide if you can live without any non-working items for awhile. Finding the cause of the problem can be very frustrating and time-consuming.
2) Collision Damage. These were among the strongest cars built in the '60s, but collision damage is almost impossible to fix correctly.
3) Rust. Like any other older car, this can be a BIG problem. If you live in the rust belt, look carefully underneath. Fortunately, these were among the most corrosion-resistant cars Ford ever built, but once it starts, there's no stopping it.
The GOOD news is that the mechanicals on these cars are almost indestructible. Transmissions are real strong, and I defy anyone to show me a more durable engine than the 462 V8. A friend of mine bought one, and it had a knock during the entire 500-mile trip back home. Pulled it apart and found a bent pushrod with a 15-degree angle in it! (Previous owner used HUGE amounts of spray ether to start the car after it sat for a year.) Best of luck with it, and if it's not a "basket case," then you can't go wrong at $2,500- you should always be able to get your money out of it.
i checked the body and undercarriage. No rust at all. There are a few oil leaks, but what car wouldnt. The body is straight and chrome is all in tact.
I am really debating the purchase of this car. I will let you know if it pulls me in.
