i have an 88 ranger 4wd with the 2.9 5sp. im looking for the rear driveshaft but cant find them anywhere with this one being a 2 piece shaft. any ideas from anyone here is helpful. thank you. the boneyard dont have anything this old anymore and cant order them.
Check ebay. Someone is always selling driveshafts there, both used and reconditioned. A shop that specializes in driveshafts can make one if necessary.
IMO, you are going to have a tough time finding a used OEM shaft. While a bit more money, a new or retubed job is straight and balanced, something you can't be sure of with a junkyard shaft.

They are not that expensive & any local driveline shop should be able to build one for you in just a couple of hours.
I have a 87 2wd and a Ford factory repair manual. The driveshaft has two sections with the carrier bearing at the rear of the front section. The manual refers to the front section as an intermediate shaft and the rear section as the driveshaft. I was looking for a replaement driveshaft expecting both as an assembly but everyone only showed the rear section.
Unless bought used, yokes were not furnished with driveshafts as original, were only sold by themselves. Rear yoke (Ford basic part number 4851) known as a companion flange as it's located on rear end.
Two piece driveshaft has front and center yokes (basic number 4841). Is your Ranger a Regular Cab w/a 7' bed, or a Super Cab?
i know what you mean, im having the same problem. everyone only shows the rear shaft and i cant find the intermediate shaft. whenever i do a search for it, all i find is the intermediate power steering shaft
also the front of the first section (intermediate shaft) has a "companion flange" just like the one on the end of the driveshaft connecting to the rear end
Does your front shaft have a rubber coupling between the yoke and the shaft? I made a mistake, they call the front shaft a coupling shaft not an intermediate shaft.
mine dont. i have 3 u-joints. one on the top of the short shaft with a flat base that connects to the tranny/transfer case (cant remember at moment), another between both shafts and finally on the end of the long shaft that connects to the rear end also with the flat base
