Does anyone else feel this way?

This is one of the minuses of living in an urban setting.

Like me, Does anyone else feel like this guy does?

************************************************

I PREDICT that future historians will say North American civilization was decimated in part by noise.

Virtually every inhabited area is now infested with boomcars (with extreme bass subwoofers) and vroomcars (with custom loud exhausts).

A grossly disturbing booming rumble is audible day and night in many locales, including Toronto. This intensifying phenomenon is the product of industries that peddle "community disturbance" as a selling point to their target male youth market.

For example, a car stereo magazine lauds one company's amplifier: "With 1,800 watts of power, this thing can ruin a whole city block."

Another well-known company has legally trademarked "Disturb the Peace" for its line of boomcar merchandise. The same firm advertises its sub-woofers as "All new ways to offend."

A third company extols its sub-woofers as "HEAD-SPLITTING, HEART-STOPPING, EAR SHATTERING, MIND NUMBING, RETINA DETACHING ... "

The transmogrification of the motor car into an assault weapon is well illustrated in the "Defy, Disturb, Disrupt, Ignite" ad campaign for customized boomcar audio by another leading manufacturer. This incendiary ad program - which glorifies the disturbance of a sleepy neighbourhood, the shattering of windows by sound, and street racing - massages the natural rebelliousness of youth into a fantasy of rage.

In sum, the noise of these cars, often speeding, abridges the social contract and is compromising our health, safety, privacy and productivity.

Ditto civilized society.

Osama and Saddam would be proud.

Sleepless in Toronto

Funny you should post that.

I was out with my friend the other night in his car, and I was making fun of his 'system as it's loud...kinda but his SQ (sound quality) is garbage.

I always say THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING. And if you know Niagara Falls, on the weekends cruising clifton hill is a total show off spot. All the clubs are rocking and everyone's out in their cars. Lundy's Lane is a good park and show but very small # of people choose to engage in mini pound offs.

I dont like stereos that make your ears bleed, as I have very good hearing and like to keep it. But I have nothing against people show boating a little. They worked hard for their money!!

Just like I read somewhere in here people trashing the Navigators and Escalades with 8000$USD+ spinner rims on them cruising. Why not? It's what they like. Heck I'd love a navigator if I had the $! (But I'd probably be happier with a 1960-1967 Lincoln Continental with a "BOOM BOOM" System

I'm young and havin fun.

I know I have lost hearing from listening to loud music - I find the loud thud of the bass really annoying!
You want to rock your house that is fine IT IS YOUR HOUSE!
But when you are 1200yards away from my house in your CAR and it rattles my windows then I think you need to turn it down!

I get to hear the incessant calling of amorous crows, angry skunks, dogs, foxes and the occasional car. I am glad I don't live where the noises of the city can be heard - I was born a country boy, and try to stay that way. I hear more shotgun shots than boom boxes. A local guy gets annoyed with the crows, and shoots them every few days. As the population never decreases, I think he is a rotten shot.

They say now that birds are not singing as much as they used to because of all the noise. Which is bad because that is part of a bird's sex life.

It is amazing how loud you can turn a stereo up and not have it offend everyone. The stuff today is overkill. If they keep it up, people will pass laws against, similiar to what happend to motorcyles regarding loud pipes.

The older I get the more I enjoy peace and quiet. Not that I don't raise some hell now and then.

I detest boomcars with every shred of my being.

Whenever possible, the vehicles should be destroyed.

They are noisy, disturbing, and the music is always full of expletives.

I bet the hearing aid companies are going to make a fortune someday because of the deafness inflicted by the boomcars.

I live near a naval base, and I would rather have jets afterburn my house and then drench it in JP5 than have to listen to that garbage.

Its a menace. It must end. But how?

Your right! In a few years due to all these kids wasting their hearing listening to that junk rap they listen to hearing aids will be big business.

hearing aid stocks may be a good investment right about now. i am young and would like to have a loud stereo. Yet my bass will be better spent rattling windows with the melodies of rock rather than the rap garbage which seems to never change. Just different beats and the placement of some profanities. The one rapper i like is Eminem. Yeah he can be profane. He can offend you. Yet when he raps its got a message. Rather than singing about big rims on what was a decent vehicle.

I am young too. I don't play my radio unless I have the windows up because I know it probably annoys other people. I am thinking about investing in some hearing aid companies.

As bad as the boomcars are, there is something that is worse on a person's hearing. Remember when Sony Walkman's were big?

Wearing headphones and just playing the music just loud enough to hear was something like 20 to 70 times over the normal human voice. This was due to the closeness of the phones and the intensity needed to make the music sound loud. What this means is the damage done by using headphones is considerable.

A safe stock option no doubt will be hearing aids or someother business that fixes those who can no longer hear.

What did you say??

Right on! I'll admit, boomcars aren't the worst on earth as far as noise level is concerned. It's not that loud, its just really really annoying. I have jets fly in low and blast my house to the point where it could wake the dead - but that doesn't bother me as much. I think its the principle of the matter. I guess I prefer loud noise - or even a good throaty V8 - to base and expletives.

Now out of you country folk that posted how many actually hang out in a club district ? Where everyone has 'rods or custom cars and stereos?

Or are you just used to the odd goofball around town?

I really think it depends where you live...I live in whats considered a small city, but during the summer when its tourist season we get alot of americans rollin in in their Caddy's/lincolns/benz's with big rims. It's funny that you guys dont like them. I much prefer the black culture over the asian. They are the only ones who seem to have held onto CHROME. The asian fad is plastic...and more plastic...and guess what? Decals to go on the plastic. LOL.

Chad

ps. I really dont think anyone other then my neighbours were bothered by my stereos in my cars...but I never liked them much anyway.

Well, in my town, we have enough of these boomcars. I live next to a Naval Air Station, which brings in all kinds of people and cultures. Boomcars are a huge problem since more than 50% of the Honda's in town are vroom vroom ricers. Some kids even have more than one. There are some that I don't mind too much, and there are others I would like to grind into the dust. We don't have a cultural district, the town itself is one. Sometimes I hate having to go through town, especially with a trailer because of these loud (expletive) freaks and their music and crazy driving. I use my middle finger liberally when the situation presents itself.

Cultures I don't mind. Rap however, (expletive) me off real bad.

Cars in general should be banned. Make everyone drive round in a 94 - 97 Powerstroke. That way none of us would hear the stereo anyway.....
