what is the biggest possible engine that will get monstrous horses with 3 1350 cfm 4bbl carbs? ne other crazy racers like me doin any experimenting like this please send info....No Email Addresses In Posts![/b])]email it to me...
an A460 block wont go that far. you need a 12 inch (or 11.7) deck block. call RDI or Jon Kasse about one of those. call Kasse for a manifold too. it would be a sheetmetal one.
the 4.600+ bore and 6 inch stroke need a hell of a tall deck. they run a rod thats around seven and three quarters inches long.
you also need to sink some money into some decent heads. plan on spending about ten grand on the heads and valvetrain.
the average IHRA mountain motor can be had for about 80,000 bucks, which isnt bad, since thats for a competitive one.
i was plannin on a 460, or a 509 crate, but i aint got a whole wad a cash to spend.....the intake i was goin to sustom build to run 3 ports for the dominators down to 2 ports to go into an edelbrock blower....ive been searchin for cobra jet heads but i caint find anyone that makes them for a 460.....how would i go about gettin 800 ci's out a 460?
Now put them beatup old used carbs back on the pile and stop thinking "there's gotts be a way"
There is NO way to build what you are dreaming of, when to quote you, "i aint got a whole wad a cash to spend".
BUT a tight reving 289 rat motor, BorgWarner T10 4spd will drop right into that Ranchero of yours , give you 5 times the power you got now and make your EDIT
AND since you don't have a WHOLE wad, congrats! This can be done with only HALF a wad

If you're looking to scare the women and children of the neighborhood, this 800+ CID Hemi head Ford by John Kaase would do the trick. You do need a rather large wad though.
John.
Rat... A term that stuck in my head after we performed all the modifications in a 1973 Hot Rod magazine to "build" a 425 HP 390ftlb tq ford 289.
Decked O ringed block, heads flow ported and mated perfectly to the intake and exhaust, Ed Pinks crank, Forged pistons with pressure ports on the top groove, don't remember the chamber CCs, bigger exhaust valves, reworked angles on the intake, heavier triple springs, titanium keepers, early solid roller cam(crane?) and lifters, changed ratio rockers, gear drive set, accell dual point setup, edlebrock dual plenum, modified Holly w/mechanical secondary.
I think we were at 11.5:1 mechanical compression but cam overlap only allowed 10.2:1 effective to be measured, Sheifer triple disk flywheel and clutch set up. I donated the BW T10 4spd that was rebuilt into the same specs as a Super T10 (larger diameter main shaft)
Engine Dyno at Tacoma speed works only ever proved 389 Hp with 402 ftlbs TQ @6300rpm
Still was a very strong 289 RAT motor in my book, for four GIs pooling their money to create.
IN early 70s this project was considered a BIG WAD and I had about 1/4 of the wad invested.
On edit... as I remember the magazine at the time had a story about the "New" DZ 302 Camero motor, and I think another story in the mag refered to a RAT motor. When we all got together to build a drag car I may have suggested the we build "our own Rat Motor" out of a fresh 289 HiPerf I had.

Then you get crazy *** people like me who want lots of money so they can stuff brand new Ford V10's into 64 Galaxies... or Dodge V10's into 69-70 chargers.. mmmmmm
on that same note one of my dream projects is a 64 galaxie 2 door coupe, chopped, painted black with all the alluminum parts i can get my hands on, stuff a V-10 into it and stuff new mustang suspention underneath and RACE the damn thing
