They are exaggerated to show how two triangles with different angles, which the origonal had, can cause the overall shape to change when their positions are changed.
The altered slope theory is the correct one. Once I read that, I imagined the green triangle placed over the corresponding area of the red one...
I didn't see it at first, but looking at the fifth line from the left point on each triangle, the red on does not come all the way up to the grid line as the green one does, therefore the angle is shallower.
The outline is definately arched slightly - and if it is convex it creates a figure that has an empty area within it.
i built two models from the drawings and used them for wheel chocks. now my truck is sitting crooked so i suspect that the two triangles are slightly different
